I have a 93 ranger w/ 2.3 injected distributor-less ignition I have some where under 100,000 on the second motor.

Any advice on aftermarket injectors.

Not looking for a increase in size, just a more efficient spray pattern.

While ford makes a good product ,I have found when rebuilding that they love to RAPE you on the cost when replacing their product.

( I had a leak on the fuel filler hose , ford wanted 540 bucks . I found one from a importer on ebay in texas 112 shipped .)

Also how about the ignition pack, the old ones are 14 years old ,they have to have a lifespan right ?

I've seen a list for accel brand on autozone web site for both , any opinions ?

And one last question I want to put a tach on it .

What wire under the hood or in the dash provides a tach signal ?

Stock they have a tach option so there has to be a place to tap into.

Thanks

Dave

What happened to the first one?

Stock are fine, you can get a pretty good price if you shop around.

Again, stock is fine. It puts out plenty of power to light off the cylinders. The Accel one is really just a waste of money.

Don't remember off the top of my head but I can look at one of my spares tomorrow.

You used to be able to do a search to find what color the wire was for the tach. I think it was grey but don't quote me on it. Late.

Have you thought of swapping clusters?

Try to get a set from a Mustang or gm product that have the brown tops, they are 19lb,the stock gray top ones are 14 lbs.and are not quite enough duration in the spray if you start turning any rpm,sAs dave said ,coils are fine and produce abundant amounts of spark, even for a built motor

i bought a cheap sunpro tach at advance auto parts and the instructions were pretty good, also used the trs tech library for info on landing the wire under the hood.took about a hour and works great.

Thanks for the responce

"What happened to the first one?"

At 300, 000 it ended up with two bad exaust valves and wouldnt pass smog(damm) Other than that it ran fine

On the tach should have used search more throughly ,its in the tech pages
Tan w yellow stripe ,now just have to isolate what bundle of wires goes to the instrument cluster with out takiing apart the whole dash.

So there is no high tech super injectors with a superior spray pattern or a better than stock coil pack ? Oh well .

Just hate putting ford stuff back on after the filler tube episode.

Thanks again

Hey Randy, good to see you back.

So a valve job would have fixed it?

You should be able to access the wire under the hood.

:icon_confused: more info please.

Do just the valves on a 300,000 motor ?Kidding right ?
Plus at what the local shop wanted , just to do the valves.

So I call up the local wreckin yard , he checks the network and gives me 3 to choose from the next day.

I used him for a tranny 2months prior( thats how I found out these things use automatic trans fluid and will go dry with out dripping a drop then melt down)

turn around in like 3 days

Think the total was right at $1200 for a used 50,000 motor installed.

Anyhow the tan yellow wire for the tach ?

So you guys are saying under the hood ?

Is it in the big round bundle loom lookin thing on the driver side fire wall ?
Or am I off

This is a 93

AH HA:icon_thumby:

Just had to do I little cleaning (all the wires in that area were dirt colored:rolleyes:)

The wire plug at the bottom of the DIS unit at the front of the intake manifold ,the closest wire to driver side.

Da TA ta DAAA
A tan wire with a yellow stripe

Now a place to mount the tach

Looking at that useless plug piece next to the vent above the radio.

A little dremel action and I'm done with this.

Thanks for the pointers

That's a fairly popular place to mount them, especially as it just pops out of the dash.

Must be ,perfect size for the 2 1/2" sun tach and with a little carefull cutting it will hold the tach at a angle to aim it at you.

Also a gripe about every place I looked that had all of the diagrams and intructions about the tan / yellow tach signal.

THERE'S one ON THE SIDE OF THE FUSE PANEL UNDER THE HOOD .One wire that terminates in a plug
It plugs into a cap that keeps it secure , I think its for testing purposes.

I had to do some cutting and drilling to get a tach to mount in my 94 (sunpro 2). As for the wire, you'll need to splice into the tan and yellow wire in the ignition system. There will be a box that says DIS, find the tan/yellow wire and splice into it.
