Wondering if this has been done before? I have an a4ld that was rebuilt not long before the 2.9 shit the bed. And I'm picking up a Pinto with a 2.8...
I want to use the a4ld because of the overdrive and lock up torque convertor. Articles in the tech section describe how to use a switch for the lockup, but there isn't any info about putting the a4ld behind a 2.8.
Is it possible? The bellhousing bolt pattern is the same... but...
Starter, flexplate, torque convertor... which ones to use?

Flexplate and torque converter would be matched to transmission, like clutch parts
And 2.9l and 2.8l used the same crank shaft bolt pattern so flexplate should just bolt up

The Pinto V6 used the C3 which was an A4LD without OD so you should be able to use the Pinto flexplate to match starter and an A4LD torque converter for TCC

If its a 1986/7 A4LD then it just has the one solenoid for TCC, 2 wire connector
But later models had the 3/4shift solenoid for OD, 3 wire connector
The 3/4 shift can also be activated with a switch but would be a pain, but on the plus side you could have a 5 speed that way, OD on between 1st and 2nd just like the 5R models, lol

Thanks.
It's an 86. Not too worried about 5th.
