I have recently noticed that my check engine light does not come on when. I turn on the ignition. I removed the negative battery terminal, and in theory this should have reset the primitive OBDI, but to no avail. So could the check engine light be burnt. The truck runs like a top no misses or issues at all. So I have no idea. Any help will be much appreciated:icon_confused:

Just to give more info. I had the check engine light come on about two months ago. The maf was bad. I have heard that the computer will keep the codes so that could be an issue as well. Maybe a fuse hell if I know there is no easy way to get the codes on these OBD I. If any body knows how to reset the computer correctly please let me know thanks

My 97 had a CEL bulb blow. It was going on and off for a month cause of an o2 sensor and then it just stayed off so I figured something must be up. Sure enough the bulb burnt out. Since my ABS was useless and didn't work that light was always on. I just swapped the ABS light into the CEL. Boom. Had a working check engine light and no more abs light :D
