87 2.0L timing belt broke

k my timing belt broke last nite.i didnt get a chance to really look at it is the timing mark on the fan belt pulley or back on the crank pulley?the cam n the crank timing mark should both b facing down rite?

easy enough to set the timing...take out plug #1 and and put your thumb over the hole and crank the engine (by hand...with a big wrench) slowly...when you feel the up pressure on your thumb you can look in the hole and when you see the piston stop moving upwards, you're at TDC...on the compression stroke...

Then you just turn the cam nut until it lines up with the little mark on the plastic thingy and then rotate the distributor shaft to line up with the notch on the crankshaft...install the belt and you should be right on...

If you don't have a mark on the dizzy just remove the cap after marking the number one wire position (it should line up with the stator on the dizzy) and you will have plug one firing at the proper time...

hey thanks 4 the tips.yea i got it running.i pull the plug out on #1 n used comp air to fine the compr stroke.the i used a spark plug gap tester n spun the gear n watched 4 the spark.put the belt on n fired her up n damn the truck has more power now.i can now pull hills in 5th gear now.i think the motor was way out of timing b4 the belt broke. thanks again tho
