In less than two weeks I am doing a 5.0 swap in my 99 ranger. The doner is a 98 ex which means its a return style fuel system where my ranger is returnless. What do I need to make the 5.0 returnless? Just the complete fuel rails and computer? Thank you for your time

These are the major parts that are different: PCM, engine harness, fuel rails, injectors, CMP sensor/Synchronizer, MAF sensor.

You need an ECM that knows how to do returnless, plus any sensors it has to determine fuel psi, and a fuel pump in your tank that can be modulated by the ECM. If you have the original vehicle, you should have all you need.

Might be easier to just run a return line and replace the pump with a fitting model if needed? Especially if you already have everything else. Since this is a true swap you should have everything else already there. Just a thought.

You need .... a fuel pump in your tank that can be modulated by the ECM.
FYI - The fuel pressure from Ranger pumps and 5.0 Explorer pumps is not regulated by the PCM.

Mechanical returnless systems are regulated in the tank to a constant pressure. The pressure in return systems is controlled by a fuel rail regulator that changes fuel pressure in response to engine vacuum.

Thanks for the info. I do have everything to make it a return style fuel system but this is california. My truck is a 99 the motor is out of a 98. California requires the same year or newer for motor swaps. I'm just trying to make it like a 99 and newer. If I have to I will change to a return style fuel system and take my chances.
