I have a '97 3.0 Ranger I am changing over to a manual from auto. My factory Y-Pipe is pretty much gone and I don't think I will have much to try to reuse after I take it off. I Already know the factory Y-Pipe for the 3.0 is a dealer only part.

Question is, I can get a y-pipe for an explorer for a 4.0 (OHV) from the local parts stores for about half the price as the factory one and it looks identical to the Ranger one (In the pictures on their computer at least). Does anyone know if there is a difference?

Thanks for any help guys!

That's all the more info I need to give it a shot!

I will hopefully have some info to come back with when I get it in!

Probably isn't gonna work. The 3.0 and 4.0 are from completely different engine families, so the chances of the y-pipes being even close to the same width is pretty slim. Might not be too tough to cut it and widen or narrow it though if it saves you some cash.

Wouldn't it be just as easy and quick to take it to an exhaust shop?

just cut the y pipe a little past where it bolts to the manifolds and use clamps to clamp on your own pipes
