My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
Before you spend money I'd pinpoint the noise, unless you just want new wheel bearings. Generally wheel bearing noise will fade turning one way and get louder turning the other way. Try weaving from the center line to the ditch and noting if the noise changes pitch or volume.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

Don’t forget to weave back the other way before you get to the ditch.

I have noticed just what you said about turning the wheel right and left. The sound reduces dramatically when turning to the right. I noticed this while just turning right in a sharp curve. I haven’t tried or noticed the left side. Thank you very much.

KrK2,
Please scroll down to the bottom of this post, check my screenname, and remember not to take my advice on this matter. I missed the title stating 4x4, and didn’t see 4x4 in your post profile. 😊

Welcome to TRS, these guys will steer you right. 😊

It probably needs front wheel bearings.

I would jack the front of the truck up and see if there is any movement in them. Chances are you will be able to feel the tire wiggle.

Be aware... there are many junk bearings on the market today. It will be tempting to buy the cheap ones... but spend up and buy quality bearings.
Uncle Gump, I started my wheel bearing and hub assembly this afternoon. Everything went very well, my question is do I need to put grease on the axle. If so what do you recommend?

Make sure the splines on the axle are good and clean...

I just put a thin coat of regular wheel bearing grease on the axle.

Uncle Gump is it possible you will have to change lug nuts when you replace the bearings and hub assembly? I was starting to put the tire back on and my original lug nuts will not go on but a couple of threads.
