- Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!
I followed the oil viscosity suggestion in my operators manual for the climate it operates in. It isn't usually above 70° F where I drive so I could use 10w30 or 10w40; I chose 10w40 to err on the side of prudence 32 years ago and have not wavered.
In regards to brands of oil, I have tested the Walmart full synthetic in my bikes and it has done very well. In the Ford 2.9's I've used Quacker State and Valvoline but settled on Mobile 1 in the early 90's; I just buy one or 2 extra gallons when they have a rebate to keep the cost down.
To be 100% clear, I now use Mobile 1, 10w40 in the 2.9L's.
