It's called pop because that's how we were raised. We (I especially) are raised by everyday blue collar Americans, not grammar-technical English teachers. This is a forum, so if you can't deal with someone abbreviating things or calling something other than YOUR preferred terms then that's YOUR problem. It's called lingo, deal with it.The point was, they are not the same thing. Use the correct term for what it is you are talking about.
It's called soda because of the sodium salts that are found in naturally carbonated water. No one knows whys its called pop.
