A MOTOR is a device with a single moving part comprised of some magnets and wires that converts electric potential (aka magic) into rotational kinetic energy.

An ENGINE uses a hundred or more synconized and balanced moving parts to convert chemical potential into heat and ultimately, through mechanical linkage, into rotational kinetic energy.

Yes, I'm simplifying, however, my point is this;

If you're gonna bash an electric vehicle, don't do your favorite gasser/diesel the disservice of calling it a motor. Those are ENGINES.

I'm done, sorry, just a pet peeve.

That always bugged me too but I call an internal combustion engine a motor too sometimes, even though I know it’s not “right”

You're probably a hundred years to late on this crusade. But if you care to... you should start at the top... Ford Motor Company... General Motors... and even the oil companies. Because they make motor oil.

I had a snickers... I'm up in the arctic right now and its dark, and cold...

I know that ship set sail a long time ago, and I do catch myself doing it too.

Just had to get it out. Thanks for not raking me over coals though that sounds warm right now.

The other day I repaired the gas tank on a freightliner... Any thoughts on that? :icon_rofl:

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
So they both convert potential energy into rotational force? Kinda sounds like the same thing. Seems like my time would be better spent arguing on the internet over the use of "probably vs prolly" or "supposibly" or any of the thousands of other words people don't know what to do with... at least engine and motor are real words.

Can you stop by the road dept garage at my work and tell them the "gas" pedal doesn't exist in a diesel truck?

Certainly don't want to argue, just venting... Similar things, not same things. And Yeah, I'm with you, accelerator, not gas.
