To each his own.
They have been on the tailgate for a long time.

F150 got the big centered one in 2004 and the last ranger received one about the same time too. Before that both had smaller offset ovals.

The chrome part is so big because like a lot of newer Fords the backup camera is integrated into it.

Backup cameras on my F150's are in the tailgate handle/surround/plastic piece thingy.

My brother in law added one to his sport trac from a 150. My 150 does not have one so I won’t claim to be an expert.

Given old Henry insisted on having "Ford" rolled into WWII Jeep bolt heads so GIs would know who was manufacturing them, I'm not surprised that there is a Ford logo on the tailgate...

The old '68 had Mercury in embossed white letters on red tailgate - the current Ranger is a lot more subtle.

He did that because his design and willys was identical.

He pretty much flat out said "Im not going to be replacing their shit for free"

Reffering to warranty claims and someone using fords dime to fix a willys.

Willy’s couldn’t keep with production so the govt had Ford build them too. Ford with an eye towards efficiency changed some things to make them faster to build. Like change the welded together grille for the now infamous slotted grille. So many that postwar they tried to claim the Jeep as their own, a big stink ensued and the grille was changed from 9 slots to 7 and Ford didn’t get it.

I don't really care much about the tailgate either way. If it doesn't make it stop faster, go faster, turn better, or more comfortable...then they can't put a big purple Barney dinosaur on the sucker for all I care.

My credo

Anything would be better than the stupid badges they have been gluing on with 3M tape for the past several years that seem to fall off within a few months after buying a brand new truck leaving holes behind...not exactly sure what the purpose of the damn holes are either since nothing is fastened using those holes LOL.

Just about everyone that says or asks about my 88 Bronco 2 asks how I like my Jeep...ok fine I just play along got tired of trying to explain to them that its a Ford Bronco 2 not a Jeep, guess since it has practically debadged itself I can't really say much but then again people have no damn clue what a Jeep looks like either I guess everything with 2 doors that looks Jeepish is a Jeep LOL.

I actually liked the old 80's embossed tailgates, no badges to fall off and looked pretty decent...funny Toyota has gone to embossing their tailgates now too, badges and 3M tape must have got really expensive HAHA!!

Funny.

I've never had badges to fall off.

Funny.

I've never had badges to fall off.
Badges on the tailgates with the brushed aluminum looking trim were notorious for shedding letters.

Fender badges are usually a bigger to pry off in a JY, no threat of them randomly falling off.

It's simply an extra expense. They are already stamping the tailgate. Might as well put some branding in the die. Costs them nothing extra. Pretty smart actually.

More tooling, it probably costs them more than punching a couple holes and having someone stick a bunch of $2 chrome badges on it.

It looks cleaner/better to me though

Not liking it, seems a bit obnoxious and I see other manufact's doing the same thing ,like 'Tacoma' stamped on tailgate,
also the side door sheet metal on the 4dr Ranger has the same 'swoosh' or turn up as the Tacoma 4dr. maybe these stampings are done by and outside vendor and they carry over to diff maufact's, lDK lotta design similarity's.

Look at the back door on the Colorado/Canyon, Tacoma & Ranger they all have the same back door curve at the window.

Here is a 2011 T6 Ranger from over seas that the new North American truck is based on:

I don't mind the letters, it helps break up the huge tailgate.

F-150 and GM also have the upkick in the rear door too, it is kind if a common thing.

Either you believe these vehicles have the exact same door stampings or you have no idea how stamping works. Either way you way off base.
