Anyone ever done a larger t/b on there 3.0? If so which one and how was it as far as gains and install.

t/b

surely someone has some comments

Yea....why.

It's not like the engine is going to magically suck in more air.

I posted the link so you can do your own searching. You won't like my comments.

Nobody likes the 3.0 for performance. Most people spend bank to mod it, see weak or no results, and swap in either a 4.0 or a V8.

Throttle body

I have a 93 ranger that i did a 302 swap, hauls but but drinks gas, so i was just wanting to pep up my other ranger with the 3.0

Well start with gears, maybe swap in a 5 speed if it doesn't already have one.

Drop some weight if you can, putting in lightweight seats, body parts, and losing the tire carrier have good effects on both MPG and making your weak HP more effective. It wont let you gain anything, but it will make what you have a tiny more effective.

I've never even heard of a throttle body upgrade done to a 3.0, most guys don't get that far. Let me know how it goes.

I had Proflow design in Renton Washington source a stock replacement for mine and rebore it to about 52mm (stock is 50 mm). They tell me that this produced an increase of 23% in airflow over stock. They were also surprised at the small size of the stock TB for a 3.0. I noticed a difference in power and throttle response and am happy with this mod, and have no regrets.

i dont know what other things you tried but i have done electric fan swap, egr bypass, and just unplugging ac clutch.i live in northern new york and dont use ac anyway.i have noticed better throttle response but not sure of mileage yet.

Ok, will have to see the engineering on that calculation. 50mm to 52mm is only about an 8% increase in cross sectional area. Air flow through TB is determined by throttle plate opening so only valid comparison would be WOT. Less than WOT and you'd just have to open the throttle plate less for same air flow requirement. Demand air flow has not changed.

egr

when you bypassed your egr how did you get your comp not to throw a code?

there are other posts on this that might help if this is confusing but here goes, you take off one hose from the egr tube and loop it. i did the larger of the two.next you follow the vacuum line from the top of the egr valve to the solenoid and unhook it from the solenoid.you then take a vacuum line from the dpfe which is a square box with two vacuum lines going in the bottom(the two lines that went to egr tube)the one vacuum connection marked ref or reference that line goes to the solenoid where you unplugged the line from the egr valve.your done.if you live in a state where they check emissions this is easily reversible at inspection time.

egr delete

if i do the bypassing of the egr, with it throw a Code?

mine has been running fine with no codes,i think a throttle body unless you change the cam or rockers there is no way you are going to get more air into your engine.the better airflow from a less restrictive filter and smoother intake tube might help draw in more air,but without a tuner supplying more fuel are you really taking advantage of more air?
