The Lone Ranger – Kage’s ’94 X-Cab Leaf SAS and Bed Bob

i think i would go for the 115, thats a pretty good number and will save alot of work of trying to make it all work...but that up to you

keep it up

Im gonna agree with Jon. Since you are bobbing the bed, 115 would give you a great wheelbase for steep climbs and obstacles.

lookin good....can't wait to see it in person.....

why not do 112" or somthing that way its as close to the 110 you want but then theres no problem if the cab corner doesnt want to play nice

That is an option. If I put the spring in the outside of the frame rail, 115" puts the spring eye center in the middle of the rear most body mount. At 110", it puts the spring eye before the rear most body mount. So those are the two "lazy man" spots to where I won't have to remake that body mount.

Now if I Put the springs under the frame (Like Kyle M) then it'll make life easier. But I've got a feeling that will wind up giving me more lift than I want.

Looking at the pictures again with a fresh eye this morning, I'm liking the look of the 115" WB more and more. I think its really going to come down to where things need to line up to keep the truck level. Any idea how much the Chevy 64's flatten out with weight on them (Stock pack, no overload)?

Time do do some fuel tank shopping today too. I've gone through the old posts about the BII tank and Allan D's post on possibly using the F350/450 rear tank. I'm thinking that the BII tank is the way I'll go, if need be, I'll cut the bed out some to get it up higher. I'm thinking the extra fuel capacity benefit will outweigh the lost clearance issue (Unless someone can talk me out of it quickly).

Thanks for the comments guys, and John, I plan on making it down to TB this year, I'll try to look you up when I do! Or if you're in the STL area, feel free to swing by for a  or :icon_pepsi:

Either one works for me, though the 2 hour trip to interlake makes it a little easier toget to

Monster... fo sheezy. :D

115 will be a good number for your wheelbase. Down at the shop, the owner's wheelin' rig (90 Toy pickup) is getting the same treatment, and 115 is what we went with on his x-cab body. No bed though, just going to be tube bed and hang skins.

Are you keeping the bed, or bobbing it and just using the skins?

I'm planning on cutting about 10" out ahead of the wheel wells so that I can keep most of the bed. I still need to be able to use this "as a truck" when I'm done. My poor moostang hasn't liked all the steel I've been hauling around in it latley :icon_twisted:

Stripping the Rear and Quick rear spring location:

A brief period of dry timed allowed me to flip the truck around yesterday, so here’s a before and after shot for you.

Pulled into the garage 2/15/11 looking like this:

Flipped around 3/10/11 looking like this:

Now it gets to gaze out of the garage into the neighborhood:

Then it was time to start attacking the rear, which stared out looking like this:
BedRemove003.jpg

Pulled out the huuuuuge tank (that was fun getting the last of the gas out of it):
BedRemove005.jpg

Pulled the carrier out of the 8.8 for the 3.73’s (the moostang is getting a gear swap in the future):
BedRemove006.jpg

Then the rest of the misc brackets and such just fell off:

Rolled the D60 roughly into place around 115” WB:

And placed a spring on top of it to get a feel for where it wants to live:

I need to do some more reading on the 63/64” springs. It seems like there is more arc on these than I was thinking. Unless they flatten out quite a bit with some weight on them, I’ve got a feeling I’ll be hacking up my rear body mount :annoyed:

I’m still somewhat optimistic that I can get the rear mocked up enough this weekend to figure out spring placement. If anyone has any good links about using these springs and running around 4” of lift, feel free to share them.

Thanks!

I'm subscribed on this one.

Mine didn't squat that much, but then again i haven't taken the overload off yet. I wish there was some way i could help ya buddy

could always mount them under the frame....like Kyle's.....:D:D:D
