I had an 86 F350 and the exhaust gasket blew out on it too. I had to lift the motor up just to get to it. What a PIA

a little more front work.

here's what i meant about having a crossmember with tabs on it to mount the front of the arms.

with the arms bolted on.the rectangular crossmember was not needed anymore,and would be in the way of the rad anyway(yes,i can fit one in here!)so i cut it out.

now for the interesting part...the rear pivot on these arms lands very close to the engine block-and right in front of the engine mount location.

so my plan is to actually mount them to the engine.the bolt holes behind the stud are the engine mount holes.i'll put a plate here,and weld the tube from the bmw to that so they have the proper taper to lock the stud in place.

the hole in the middle of this pic is the sleeve for the control arm pivot on the bmw crossmember.i'll use a holesaw on each side to free them from this so they can go to their new home.


now that the suspension arms will be using the engine mount locations,i need a new place to mount the engine from.

it has these holes on both sides at the front of the block,so i think this is a good spot to mount the motor from.accessory drives could get a little tight.oh,well.

TV is boring anyway. What you need is a clone that shares your collective, that way you could watch TV, AND build your car/whatever the heck else it is that you build. You could technically be two places at once!

there'll be plenty of time for sleeping when i'm dead.

back to the good stuff....

as stated earlier,a holesaw was used to remove the sleeves from the bmw crossmember.that's them right in front of the drill.i just got this holesaw set a little while ago,it's pretty cool.it has 9 arbors each with a different saw size,and a quick release holder so if you need to change sizes,or remove the saw to get a plug out,it takes less than a second to do it.

the plate for the block,with the sleeve.

finally had to chop out the front section of the cage,and also took out a notch in the top of the frame to help clear the arm on down travel.
