what would a sand blaster useing soda or some other medium do to one (intake), I would try, but I don't have a sand blaster yet.

I think using a sandblaster with any media would be a bad idea.. The idea is to get is evenly smooth.. there is no way to do that with a sandblaster. plus you have to get rid of the pits.. I would think the pits could be made deeper blasting it.. Bottom line is it needs to be smooth not wavy. And fine enough scratched that the scratches can be polishes out.. Such as 1500 or 2000.. the more sanding on final (2000) the easier it will be to polish to a high luster finish.. same thing with paint...
