4x4 5.0 swap with pics!

Still no progress other than still collecting the random part here and there. I believe i started this project the wrong time of the year; little bit of snow and 19degree weather yesterday. Thanks for the pic bobbywalter. Do you have a larger image? hopefully there wont be clearance issues with the pan an the 4x4brackets though. however if there are problems then i reckon i'll just start my next project before this one is finished and just get rid of that bracket all together hehehe

Today: got the donor motor pulled completely out. Weather is supposed to be a little better this week so hopefully ill have a few days off to make some needed progress. Situate the tranny and set the motor in place long enough to get the new motor mount holes taken care of then on to stripping the motor down then assembly of the new goods!

Just an update..off all weekend so should get some decent work in hopefully. An I believe I may have scored a set of gt40s. Guy says they just came out of the machine shop last mont with new valves an springs. Milled 0.020 an good to .512 lift. Says he sold the car before they were finished and paid 382 I believe for the machine work. Negotiated a price of $400 depending upon pics That he's supposed to send tonight. Oh an steel gt40s. Good buy?

GT40s are good stuff. I'm keeping an eye on this build... I'm getting ready to start on my 95 4x4. Any idea on what you are going to use for headers? Any one else know if Tri-Ys will work on a 4- by?

i really want to know where that tranny is going to come thought the floor

Well I'm picking the heads up friday morning. As far as headers go I'm going to be the guinea pig an try Tri-y's. An I think the Shifter should be in the stock place or like an inch or 2 forward. Ill find out this weekend!

thanks man. fixing now... was trying to be lazy

You and me both! I now know why everyone says either dont do this swap with a budget in mind or if you do to double it... i never planned on doing half of the stuff im doing to this motor hahaha. like the gt40s, a new cam(being as i have no clue whats in it!), MSD distributor, new intake and carb. ah but it should make the end result that much meaner:thefinger:

Definitely take pics of the header install. I'm hoping they still work even with the 164 tooth flywheel and the bigger trans. I know in my 2wd with a T5 they fit great. Looking forward to seeing them.

Ok guys, I picked up the GT40s this morning, they were good as advertised! i got the motor stripped down to the block; other than the pan and the timing cover. (Heads that i pulled off have the casting: E7TE, which i believe are E7s, my book isnt infront of me currently!) Transmission & bellhousing were repainted red so they can be sat in place for mock up tomorrow. I have a few pics ill post up either tonight or tomorrow.

Tomorrows goals are:
- snag a non-ac heater box if i can find one
- Have trans and t-case under the truck for mock-up
- put the oil pan and heads on for mock up so i can drill holes for motor mounts. hopefully i can do it and still have enough adjustment for headers when they get here
