Hey yall. I have a 02 FX4 V6 with 31 General AT2's that im looking to increase acceleration from a stop. What are some cheap mods I can start with that will help? The engine is stock with no mods yet.

My guess is that the answer will be all about the gearing. Useful economical power increases are all but unobtainable for practical purposes on out trucks. I bet the consensus opinion will be 4.10's.

Smaller diameter tires.

+1 Nothing that is considered "cheap" is going to help out your low-range power. The intake/TB spacer/exhaust will increase power output (well maybe not the TB spacer or the intake, but thats a different discussion) but any gain realised, will be so far up on the tach, that you will hardly ever use it. Ontop of that, you will likely reduce your low-end grunt.

Now to increase low end power, the best bang for your buck is gears. A tuner is the cheapest option, but the power gains won't be anything amazing. A supercharger would work wonders, as would a motor swap. IIRC the FX4s had 32s from the factory, and with 4.10s I can't imagine it is all that bad, but I can always understand wanting more power. Other than that, I would save your money, and be thankful you dont have a 3.0 like me. :icon_thumby:

So this part has to be cheap. It has to be summoned on demand, even at low rpm. Acceleration must be improved. Well, Nitrous Oxide is about the only item that fits the bill.

Nitrous is only cheap for a little while.

I did not know that the factory gears are 4.10.

Smaller wheels would improve the gearing, as would even lower final drives.

JMHO, but I bet you're stuck. The truck is what it is. I'd say enjoy it, or think of a 5.0 conversion, or a more powerful vehicle. For instance my Corvette is fast, but won't tow. Things are what they are.
