I have a 2006 4x4 ranger. I just got some new mevotech TTX lower ball joints in it, and also need to do the lower control arm bushings. All I'm seeing on rockauto are generic kits like dorman and FVP and were wondering if there were any better ones out there? There's also some energy suspension poly ones, how good are those? I've heard good and bad things about poly bushings, I'm happy to spend the extra money on them if they'll work out well. Any tips on what i should get?

Most people go poly bushings because they are usually cheaper and easier to install without a press. They do transmit more vibration, but good poly bushings are smoother than worn out rubber. Technically poly bushings are supposed to be lubed periodically too. I've had some on my truck about 10 years now without it and they still look fine at a glance.

How smooth do you want the ride to be?

I actually enjoy a really stiff ride, it's a torsion bar suspension that isn't designed to be soft so I like the stiffer ride it has, been thinking about finding code 1 bars and 1750lb leaves just to get it a little stiffer anyways

I would just buy the lower control arm with bushings and ball joints installed. Especially if you are planning on changing the torsion bars. The torsion bars will be seized in the control arms and you need to cut reliefs in them with a grinder to remove them.

Buying the whole control arm with bushings pre installed will save a lot of time and swearing. Pop your new torsion bars in and bolt it all back together.

I just got really high quality ball joints pressed in those arms though, so would rather not throw the arms out. I doubt the bars will be seized, my truck doesn't have any rust
