OK, I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT. Every time it rains heavy there is water that puddles on the top of my battery and in the battery tray. This causes a lot of corrosion and I can't figure out what the heck to do to stop the water from leaking. Looking at the hood, the gap on the side of the hood is a bit bigger on the drivers side than on the passenger side. I have read that there should be some kind of weather stripping or Silcone seal on there, but I don't see anything. Anyone have any experience with this or know how to fix this annoying leak so that my battery won't keep getting wet?

I have never had a problem with my truck but I have had issues when I get lazy and don't put the lid back on the battery boxes on tractors.

It is a really frustrating issue, I can vouch for that.

I wish the truck had a battery box to keep it covered and keep it from getting wet. It does suck and batteries are not cheap.

my truck has a rusty battery tray and does not have this problem its natural for car battereys to rust the tray they are in dont know why but it is filled with sulfuric acid some strong stuff

Yeah, but my issue is that when it rains the water literally puddles on the top of my battery and I don't know how to stop it or really how its getting in.

these trucks do not have seals i would make sure the fender alignment is good if it is i would then adjust the hood

So, does it happen when driving? Does it happen when parked? Have you looked after driving on a non-rainy day to see if it gets wet? Could it be coolant from a radiator leak or hose leak? First thing to do is figure out when the water accumulates vs. When it does NOT accumulate. There is no seal around the hood in a Ranger. Anything and everything in the engine compartment is eligible for getting wet when you drive in the rain.
