I doubt the ac will fit with a 351?

I say this because while you can get by with no ac in florida you might as well already be in hell:pissedoff:
I put a 351 into my 93 Ranger because I had a complete engine, I rebuilt it, converted it to Carb and Duraspark and it works fine. My truck was a former drag truck and had no heater box so I installed a Vintage Air street rod kit. It works fine except on cool rainy days because it has no outside air intake and the windshield is hard to keep clear.

yeah.....point taken....valid

I've read that the rod angle in a 347 is enough to cause piston scuff and shorten engine life, I'd build a 331(.030" overbore, 3.25" stroke) unless the budget allowed for a Ford Performance block that could handle a bigger bore.

I thought about it, but the coffee isn’t doing enough to help matters today :secret:

60 over oem block should have a good sonic first.

what exactly is the goal? auto or manual trans? what style trans? something that gets alot of miles? stop/go or long cruise?

in the 600 hp range setting up the thrust loads for a manual trans on the stroker is key for longevity....the pressure plate for a clutch to hold power is a thing. that causes problems.

same level with an auto you will want a good converter that wont swell with the rpm...
4 speed manual all traffic as well as the strip

i named it after Luke Finley Ze Thunderhead289

should we do 351
302
or something else if 351 how much stroke could i do with no grinding how much bore safely?

goal...13-12-11 second capacity? sounds like ya just want a rowdy brawler with a simple 4 speed.

what do you already have?

if you have the powertrain already putting the money into the stroker might be worthy.

to do a good stroker here, block prep and full blueprint balance is a 6 month wait and 1800-2 grand....a decent stroker kit is 2 grand and heads are 1500 and intake and carb 1500 with base ignition...

i cant build a good 450 hp windsor under 7g. blue print sells them turnkey for 8k...

hard not to buy a turnkey.

I know all that stuff (thanks for the info) but i want to build it myself i have over 2 YEARS to do it and im just starting with the power plant and rollin back to the axle
i want a tough 4 speed thats not gonna blow up into lots of shiny bits and a good balance of low ish rpm low gear high speed but still take off motor just as big as it can be and be a simple bore and stroked carbed setup

I like the stock 302's from the late 80's and 90's... even 180-200hp is fun in a Ranger size truck. There is a lot of hearsay about premature wear on 347's and probably a lot of truth to it but is it really that big of a problem for most people that just put one in a toy? I'm guessing MOST people are not putting hundreds of thousands of miles on their stroker engines...so is it really just a non-issue for the most part?

I'm going to build a 408 for my F150 someday. Motortrend had an article about doing that with specific parts and intentionally keeping the compression ratio low enough that you could run 87 octane and still make over 400hp. That sounds pretty attractive to me, I have no desire to buy premium and doubling the power my stock 302 makes now sounds great. That truck is already no slouch, EFI + 3.50 gears and being a relatively light vehicle to begin with make a great combo.
