93 Splash in SC, V8-Swap version

Compression checks are done. All 155/160 except #7. It struggled to hit above 125. I got 130 on it once. I might have gotten #6 and #7 spark plugs mixed up earlier. Maybe #7 was the one with the oil and dark color. It was a challenge to get my hands on 5, 6 and 7 to get the tester screwed in good. But I feel confident that reading on 7 is accurate.

Currently sidetracked on removing stuff under the hood. But my goal is to get the transmission out this afternoon.

Well, the transmission didn't come out today. Battery, battery tray, AC compressor and lines, Power steering pump and accessory bracket, starter motor and almost the radiator. Darn AC condenser is attached to the radiator. Not sure how to separate them. So, fan and fan clutch need to come off to let the radiator/condenser mess to come out.

Figured out what Ford engineers are good at - forcing mechanics to use every tool in the catalog all on one vehicle.

wow! They put an oil cooler between the filter and the block. I was wondering why the filter was placed where it is.

That oil filter mount interfered heavily with my steering box FWIW.

I already have an oil filter relocation kit. But I was planning in installing it where the filter currently resides. Either way, I have options.

Odd, my '00 didn't have one of those oil coolers...

Yeah, the condenser has clips into the radiator, I think they're just wedges but I'm not quite sure, mine are broken and the radiator wore a hole in the condenser...

If I remember right I just got the fan and shroud out of the way and the radiator and drug the whole thing out, might have taken off all of the front brackets though and the upper intake.

Not all did. The one I have is without the cooler, it is just the 90* adaptor.
Is that a metal 90 degree? Or just a different lower hose right from radiator to water pump? I may need to find out later.

It is just an oil filter mount. The mounting gaskets are also unobtanium.

IIRC if I put it on the engine before I put the engine in the truck it may work. I don't have enough room to get my current adaptor out let alone that one one in with the bolt though. It was a bear to get out of the donor car too.

I was thinking about the coolant hose, since, in mine, the hose routes to the cooler.

the 2.9 or 4.0 adapters work with the straight type relocators. if you use an over rail type steering box like i have fitting a fullsize filter is easy.

with the regular ps box a shorty can work..

with a manual steering box depending on what style mounting methodology is used, the 2.9 adapter works pretty good with the filter facing at a forward angle.

the one i listed was 12 bux when i first started doing v8 swaps.

I was going to say I think mine was around $20 when I did my swap 15 years ago lol.

Now I'm curious on what an over rail steering box would come from... I'm going to need to get creative once I start butchering the Explorer...

Eric, on the coolant side of the oil cooler, that's just a copper piece sandwiched on a 90 degree adapter, the cooler part will come off but you'd be short the male/male thread piece to screw a filter on there most likely.

On the gaskets for those 90 degree adapters the easiest place to get them is buying the cheapest oil filter you can find or finding an O ring with the right dimensions, we have to do that at work, was easier when cheap filters were like $2 instead of whatever they are now... I don't remember what I did on my 5L when I rebuilt it, I think I took that off but I might have avoided it so I didn't need to risk it...
