I have a 1991 ranger super cab with the 4.0 4 inch lift stock radius arm i have xj 6 inch coils is it even possible or worth it to use them with the stock radius arms and would it even work? I've seen the thread and he uses 3 inch coil on a bronco 2 which is way lighter.

I'm not well versed in lifting ttbs.. but I'm *relatively* sure for that much lift you would definitely need either radius arm drop brackets or extended arms to keep everything happy.

Someone who does know will chime in soon im sure.

I have a drop bracket with the radius arms but not sure if I need a bigger drop bracket

If the existing lift was a kit, it probably has radius arm drop brackets. If not the existing lift would be way out of line.

IIRC the XJ coils are significantly softer. Like to the point it's sketchy on back roads... I wanna say I heard 4" XJ coil resulted in stock height after compression. IF that's right you'd need 8" XJ coils for a 4" lifted Ranger.

Daaaamn this is good info..

Id love to have some longer lighter coils for my truck.. really help with weight transfer at the strip.

I looked into it briefly awhile back just because Jeep stuff is always cheap on Facebook. Came to the conclusion I'd want some really tall springs for the Jeep and the Ranger lift coils are relatively cheap themselves.

for travel the coils for xj are a thing.

for travel stock radius arms are not.

it can work but specifically you need a rate that works.

i run Air bags in my soft coils for street use. 140 PPI soft. undrivable without bags but awesomeness off road.

Stock radius arms are arguably barely adequate for street use. Stuffing a 2” lift coil in with them nearly requires a spring compressor.

Also 2” is about the max for aftermarket upper ball joint caster/camber adjusters.

Axle pivot drops, aftermarket caster/camber bushings, drop pitman arm, all virtually required along with extended radius arms for any real lift/performance out of the TTB unless you want to do a cut and turn on the beams.

I built the set of extended arms on my Choptop. Started building a set for my 88. Intend to build a set for my dump truck and F-150.

I'm gonna be looking into it for sure.. isnt there an article in the tech library about stock spring heights & weights?
