My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Fitness nerds say if you're trying to build muscle that you want to want to consume 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight per day...

.. well.. I stepped on a scale at work a couple months ago and nearly shit my pants when it let me know I was up to 250lbs lol.. not a TOTAL fatty mind you.. 6'2" with a 36"~ waist.. dad bod for sure but working in construction keeps me more solid than soft for the most part.

Anyways... how in the actual F am I supposed to get 250 grams of protein per day without going broke?.. and more importantly.. enjoying consuming that much protein?

For reference.. AN ENTIRE GALLON OF MILK only has 125g of protein.. chicken tittys have 30~ grams per 4 ounces.. cheese is like 5g per ounce..

This must be why those dweeb-y protein powder shake mix deals exist huh? Seems like an awful lot of eating...

What makes things worse for me is that Im in no way hungry for many many hours after I wake up.. I usually get up a little before 7 but usually don't feel hungry until noon. Not only am I not hungry but it's actually kinda difficult to eat.. gotta force it down..

Really just blows my mind. All those boulders of dudes who compete in the worlds strongest man competitions and shit weigh like... 400+ lbs... What the hell do they eat every day? An entire fking farmyard is my guess.. good Lord.

burgers and steaks.... move to cattle country where I am and beef is cheap.

4 oz steak I don't have numbers for but 3 oz chart I found, makes chicken boobies look like diet tofu sawdust:

Road kill is high in protein from all of the carbon monoxide.

Just a suggestion . . .

That's great and all, but who eats a 3 oz steak?

So if a steak has roughly 24g of protein per 3 oz of weight. The t-bone I ate yesterday had roughly the same protein as a gallon of milk. So I'd have to eat 2 t-bones a day to match Blmpkn's weight grams in protein. I wouldn't complain, but I'm sure my wallet would.

As for how to achieve the quantity, I think one of the keys is don't try to do it all at once, or even just when sitting down for your normal meals. Find high protein snacks to eat throughout the day. One of my co-workers is a fittness buff, he actually teaches a class at the gym every day before and after work. Through out the day he's eating tuna or other high protein snacks, but he does drink the protein shakes too. Of course he probably drinks a 6 pack (or more) of monster every day, so he may not be the best example to follow on the diet part.

Another potential source is yogurt. I've been eating the Dannon Oikos variety, not because of needing protein, but yogurt has other health benefits and this brand is has the lowest sugar content I've found (diabetic) and still tastes good. It advertises as having 15g per cup. Would not difficult to sneak in a cup or two during the day, between meals, to help pad the numbers if you needed it.

let's get serious, what about cheeseburgers?

so far they've gotten me to 72. I'll have to admit I'm kinda wondering about the future though.

Overloading on protein can be hard on your kidneys though.
On a related note, I was drinking Creatine for several months last year. I'd lost some weight from my knee surgery, we were going on a cruise in May, and I wanted Mrs. O to have a buff man on her arm. I'd say it worked, I was going hard in the gym and doing 5 sets instead of 3 and with more energy but then I got pre-op blood work for my other knee replacement, my kidney numbers weren't good, and the doctor told me to stop that shit.
Just eat a balanced diet, moderate carbs, hit the gym, and don't worry about it.
We're not NFL players or pro bodybuilders.

Pass...

Too much bread, wouldn't be good for my glucose numbers. Not that it matters much right now. With dad in the hospital out of town, every weekend is fast food and what able to get my hands on. Fortunately it's a costal town so plenty of seafood options, but not every meal and difficult to eat healty and eat out for a diabetic. Places just don't cook that way or use the right ingredients. My doctor is going to be upset with me when I go back in a couple of months, but tough shit.

Back when I drove for AZ, I carried a list of restaurants and things to order. I’d call in an order to go and eat on the road because I got tired of fast food. You have to plan ahead a bit, but I love a good steak or chicken salad so I found the best places to order those as well as other things. Might not work for your situation but it’s a thought.

So.. getting that much protein a day isn't quite as difficult as I originally thought.. but it's still gotta be a conscious effort. Having thought about it awhile I realized that its likely only really necessary to eat that much protein on days during&after a workout as well.. so that makes it both easier to both stomach & afford which is nice lol.

A couple tuna sandwiches with cheese on sweet Hawaiian rolls is like 48gr

I'll have to go look at the book I have at home. It was written by Some Guy. His focus is that as one ages, the more protein one needs to consume to be utilized. But, he said that one can only utilize so much in one meal, the rest is wasted. How much that is? I dunno. The book is at home.

You can thank me later for this informative post.

Something I had actually been wondering about.. but hadn't got around to Google-ing yet lol.

Same thing with how long protein is "good" for once consumed. Like.. is your body still making use of the protein you ate at breakfast when you're working out at 5pm?

twinkies. hookers.....and blow. breakfast of champions.

lunch dinner and snacks too

The book is The Whole Body Reset by Stephen Perrine. The cover speaks of weight loss, but that isn't the focus of the book.
