Got all the parts to replace my AC system!!
If you needed stuff for a 3rd gen, I could fix you right up.what did that cost you? Everything for the AC has been removed from under the hood of my 87 2.9, but it was originally an AC truck. I’ve been thinking of scouring the scrap yards to get all the goodies, but I’m just curious what you paid for the new stuff
Circa $350...not including the manifold gauges (harbor freight $50) and vacuum pump (also HF $100)what did that cost you? I'm interested to see how it goes for you. AC is next-ish on my list. I've priced out the new parts I need and hope to get them next paycheck. I'm going to be optimistic (ha, cheap) and hope that my lines and condenser are ok. Like every other time I cheap out, I'm sure it won't backfireCirca $350...not including the manifold gauges (harbor freight $50) and vacuum pump (also HF $100)
Got the condenser installed. Initially tried to remove the fan and after some cursing I realized the radiator didn't have to come out at all. FYI on a 93 4.0 OHV 5-speed 2wd you can "tilt" the radiator and get the condenser out...wrapped up the truck for the night and getting some chicken on the grill.
Putting chicken on the truck grill is generally not how it's done. Not to mention vehicle grills are not very heat tolerant.
Does that style take an o ring?Well got everything back together and my ac pressure switch is leaking. When I remove it the system holds vacuum tried another switch and it leaks also...seems to be made of plastic so I'm not sure how tight it's supposed to be screwed onto the dryer..
The switch itself didn't come with one but the dryer had one installed on the male fitting. I put a thicker O-ring on it and got it to hold pressure for about 10 minutes but I don't trust it. I went ahead and filed the system and the compressor kicked on and it's blowing ice cold! If the system loses pressure over the next few days I'll remove the pressure switch and jump it until I can figure out how to get it to seal permanently..Does that style take an o ring?
