What did YOU do today?

I did yard work today since it is supposed to rain tonight and the yard is growing really fast with all the rain we have been getting. So, not much got done on the 2019. I did get the center section of the bottom lip cut and the bare metal got smoothed and painted.

I did yard work after work today too. We got back from the Georgia Traverse trip yesterday afternoon. I was beat and was dying for a shower haha. So today I cut grass and all. I kinda had too. Corey had redone the whole front flower beds while I was off camping with my buddies. So if I didn't I'd be in the dog house. We are supposed to get more rain tomorrow too.

Put my new shop to use today. I tore one of the two bench vices I have here apart the other day and last night I got around to cleaning and lubing some of it. Today I made a new washer for the spring with my hole punch for steel, got it back together, clamped it to the bench and made up new front brake hard lines for dad’s 99 Ranger.

Also tore apart my wheelbarrow that the handles broke (had to use an angle grinder on the bolts). Did some more tidying up in the shop and a couple little things. Then I grilled up some brats and onions for dinner, had some fries in the air fryer and polished off the last of the salad.

Then I retired to the front porch with a cigar (Alec Bradley Black Market Filthy Hooligan) and a frosty Dogfish Head Citrus Squall.

well this weekend I did a few things...

1. mowed the lawn for the first time this year (or rather coerced my 14 year old son to do so)
2. cleaned up all of the twigs/ limbs and some of the garden debris from last year before mowing the lawn
3. cleaned the ginormous mouse nest out of my grill and sanitized the entire grill and replaced the grates.
4. burned above mentioned twigs/ limbs/ debris and mouse nest in the fire pit.
5. bought some flowers for the front porch and set up shepherd hooks to hold them.
6. got tired from all of that work.

Now I am tired reliving it for you guys.

Broke down the passenger side knuckle, spindle/hub and punched out all the bearings/seals. Cleaned up some parts and painted some as well.

Got some really cool old oilers. Soaked them in degreaser and then finished cleaning them up. 4 Eagle and 1 Goldenrod.

over the years I have had a couple U joints that seemed too wide to let the caps set properly.
that includes bashing on the cross both ways to fully seat the caps against the clips.
there are U joints that have internal clips, I've not compared the exact dimensions.
Turns out the rear shaft yoke holes are just too loose and the caps were spinning and it spit out the snap ring... I decided to just change the joint in the driveway with the company of about 900 bazillion mosquitoes apparently (+/-6), went fine, only one roller fell over when I was putting the caps on and it was the first one so easy... After I get the camper drained and off I'll pull the rear shaft and do a little welding on those straps to tighten them up (I hear making a bead around the outside will shrink them, simple enough).

Also drug home a pallet of 3' 2x4's from work that are part of engine pallets, there were apparently 200 of them on there, the '97 Ranger knew it was there... they're useful sometimes, have like 6 staples in each but they come out easy enough and free is free...

mowed what I could yesterday, still more to do but it will have to dry more . The other day the tractor started running rough. acted like fuel. Took the sediment bowl out & saw someone before me used red rtv on the gasket. grrr. Guess the carb comes off next. Parts on order.

I should be getting the front bumper back together on the 2019 today. I really need to take some pictures and post them up on the build thread befor it is all back together. That and I've yet to take pictures of the Softopper and Dantin Metal Fabrication canvas cage before I start mounting things to it.

I got notification that the various brackets and mounts I ordered have shipped. So, pretty soon, the cage is going to be hidden behind gear, making it hard to see what the base looks like.

found this list of U joint sizes
it appears 1330 and 1350 are very similar but have different cap diameters. so confusion has been invited to the party.
1350 is stronger than 1330
Universal Joint size and dimensions specifications and part numbers 1000 series to 1880 series

Yeah, Ford and their never ending lists of U joints... 1310 is a small cross and small caps (common in Rangers and such), 1330 is small caps and big cross (1/2 ton stuff) and 1350 is big caps and big cross (heavy duty stuff). By loose caps I mean like 0.010" gap from years of running U joints with inadequate grease for the rollers...

Just stuff some aluminum tape in there while pressing the joints in. That will fill in the gap.

I filled up the Missing Linc with $2.79 regular gas today! It has been level around 309 or 315 for a while. I was about 30 miles east of me in Loganville Georgia where I found the 279.

woo hoo!

When I started driving back to Atlanta, I passed a place that was 269, and then one that was 265.

edit: east

Our gas prices are crazy right now. They drop to 2.59 to 2.69 a gallon through the week the shoot up to around 3.00 every weekend. Then gradually climb down then shoot right back up haha.

Been paying a steady 285ish for quite awhile now.

Anxiously awaiting this cheap ass gas I was promised 🙄 :stirthepot:
