06 Frame Repairs

Was driving to Mansfield for lunch with the wife and I heard a bad squealing sound over the music, I turned it off and saw the coolant temp peg. I immediately pulled over and turned off the truck.

Smoke everywhere from under the hood, coolant all over the engine bay. My dad met up with me with tools and we pulled the thermostat, reinstalled with just the gasket (thinking the thermostat might have been stuck). I refill the radiator with water and its dumping immediately all over the road. The engine starts chugging instead of running correctly. I might have destroyed my engine. Woooo.......

I am ordering a new water pump, pulling the radiator from my parts truck and replacing the thermostat and housing next weekend. This sucks...... Hopefully I didn't toast the engine. The oil seems fine from the dipstick, no coolant smell.

Local tow shop is dropping it off today at the farm for me to work on. It should run just well enough to pull into the garage.

On a side note, I did install the android radio, for a $40 unit, its really nice for cheap double din.

Ordered new radiator (at $100, I figured its better than attempting an failing with my parts truck one), water pump, thermostat/housing/sensor, and a belt. Cost $225 shipped from rockauto. Man this thing is cheap to buy parts for, I was so used to buying parts for 2021 Ford Escape. The window regulator for that thing, on the cheap side, used, from ebay, was $190.

Luckily I have a replacement engine in my parts truck that runs great, but we shall see on Saturday if the engine is dead

Yup. My parts truck is an 07 built in 06, Tommy Oliver is an 06, built in 05.

Ah not too terrible of a swap then.

Good news and bad news...

Good news is that I got $9000 for the Escape getting totalled. Takes care of of debts and the Ranger is supposed to get me through until the end of March 2027. Then I buy a replacement MAIN vehicle and the Ranger goes back to my beater.

The Bad news: I was unable to remove the fan from the water pump, I broke several tools trying, even welded some together, and the effort of 3 hours made me give up. Next, the thermostat housing. One of the mounting bolts stripped, and that's when I threw in the towel.

Result: I'm going to look at some cars tomorrow with dad in the Sub $4000 range, I need a second vehicle (third? Fourth? My 89 f150 gets 9mpg and I have a 90mi daily commute, screw that lol).

The Ranger is being towed to a local garage to be finished up. I reassembled just about everything loosely so they can easily take it apart without guessing which bag of bolts goes to what lol.

New radiator, pump, thermostat and housing. Also a belt. My air filter is from 2017 and horrid, so I will also ask them to order one of those. I expect the bill to be $700-1000. Not the end of the world, but definitely a blow to the gut.

Not gonna lie guys, feeling defeated after this one.
