What did YOU do today?

Our gas prices are crazy right now. They drop to 2.59 to 2.69 a gallon through the week the shoot up to around 3.00 every weekend. Then gradually climb down then shoot right back up haha.

There was a study done (and repeated a few times) that found out that on average fuel prices are typically lowest on wednesday. Since wednesday is market day anyhow I made it a rule when I was a commuting stiff to fuel up and buy groceries etc etc on wednesday - basically kill one entire evening out of a week so I wasn't in the grocery store with all the idiots on saturday fighting through a sea of em.
I actually found my gas expenditures went down a little if I filled every other wed regardless of if I needed it or not (it used to take me about 2 weeks of commuting to burn a tank)... just kinda a funny thing I found.

Whatever you do, don't fill up on memorial day or labor day weekend - the price gouging those weekends... wow.

Didn’t end up with a whole lot of time today to do anything but I spent most of that in my shop. Got some stuff cleaned up, moved some things around on the bench, whole bunch of organizing, and a little work on fixing a wheelbarrow. The handle assembly doesn’t exactly match the tub, wheel/axle assembly and the legs that I have. Not a big deal. The holes in the tub are worn so I was thinking to just weld a washer in to fix the holes anyway so I’ll just move the two holes that don’t line up to where they need to be. I have a welder and grinder, this can be fixed. Tweaked the bends on the legs and now they line up. Still have to trim the axle mounts. Maybe the axle, see how it fits. Straightened the front supports. Punched holes in the legs to bolt a crossbar in because the old one slotted in and was too wide.

Then I decided to attend the township Park Committee meeting… all I’m gonna say is man do these guys know how to waste time and money… absolutely no clear plans at all.

I’m actually still just moving into my shop, lol. Everything is slowly finding homes. It’s currently an 8’x8’ ”shed” that will be extended 4’ as soon as I can make it happen because not everything that needs to is fitting. But I presently have about a 16” deep and 4’ long section of open workbench space which is exactly that much more than I’ve ever had. Meaning I never had a proper workbench of any size. Usually just a tailgate or 55 gallon drum or just sit on the ground… this is a novel thing for me…

Tonight I just decided to jump on the tractor and try to work up some dirt, the 3 point disc didn't do much since my tractor is too small to have enough traction for the disc to do enough so I switched to the tiller which is a vibraty job even in the slowest gear... chewing up grass sucks, should have done it last weekend... whatever, first step is done, gotta even out the parts I missed a year and a half ago... time to get rid of some bumps I've been looking at for too long and help with the vole problem hopefully, they're jerks...

Cleaned up the truck. First time in a long time it's looked this good.

I mowed the grass and put a few more mounting bars on the 2019 bed rack. I don't want to get much further with mounting equipment while Jessica is using the truck. She's going to be using it while I get all the fluid changes and preventative maintenance done on the Escape. Once that is done, I can start overlanding it up.

So far I’ve taken 2 runs to the county recycle yard to drop off brush. I still have 1 more to go… that can wait until after lunch.

Last night after work I jumped back on the tractor and switched back to the disc and worked up the dirt more... If I get the gumption I might go pick up some more rocks from the junk dirt I worked up. For some the goal is just to get some bumps out so it's more flat and move the dirt into some low spots by the pond, by the property line fence the goal is to get the berm broken down since it slopes up at the fence from dirt working over the years (probably some from me...). I pretty much need to leave that alone for a few days to get the grass to rot to get the clumps smaller.

Not today, more last night, I made my drill press variable speed (and reversible!) Using a dc motor and speed controller. It's a nice old Atlas drill press but the lowest speed was too fast for drilling larger holes in steel. Now I don't have that problem. Just need to mount the controller and I'll be good to go.

I'm also getting used to this, recently bought a house with a 20x24 garage and I'm getting it all organized and set up. Never had much more than a spare bedroom and enclosed porch filled with things and a dirt driveway. Having an enclosed space has been a weird adjustment, but I'm enjoying it. Hung a bunch of lights in there a few weeks back, and acquired then set up some steel cabinets and have all of the tools and supplies about 75 percent sorted out. Once there's more floor space cleared out I'll be getting my rolling workbench brought over and it'll be pretty much done.

The most irritating part of my adjustment is knowing full well that I could have done this 10-15 years ago and it would have made my life considerably easier. Just got so fixated on wanting a garage that I didn’t think of it.

Glad to hear your new place is coming along nicely though!

Its been a slow process thus far, but progress is being made

Swapped vehicles with my son and got his Subaru. He needs to get a load of gravel for some yard work he's doing.
His back yard is about 6 feet wide and there's a steep hill after that so his back yard is always wet. I detailed how to put in a French drain to carry water away from the yard and his girlfriend's dad, who is a professional building contractor, said "Yup, Johnny O is right".

cleaned the chicken house out, used the gator instead of the deere mower with yard cart (dump trailer). Works a lot better except it needs 2 things, sideboards for more crap capacity & a electric lift. The hinge point on that bed is so far back that its very difficult to dump manually. The whole kit is $500 on fleabay but the motor/lift cyl assembly is just $120. I think I can make my own harness & source the switch I need easily & more efficiently. And on a holiday note: I used to get my daughter a “big ears” chocolate rabbit every easter, well this year they are no where to be found. So I got the biggest ears for her I could find. Surprisingly she found it funny.
