I swapped my 2.3l 92 Ranger for a carburated 302, I am now having issues with my stater not firing at all, I know the starter works because it fires when hooked directly to the battery. I got the standard starter for the truck the engine came out of (totaled 1990 F250) any help or diagrams or anything would be helpful. thanks in advance :)

Does the starter relay in the fender click? Are you getting battery voltage to the small terminal on the starter relay? What's your battery voltage?

Try jumping across the relay with a wrench. If starter turns, starter relay is bad, assuming the key is sending battery voltage to the small terminal (labeled "s"?) unless it isn't grounded. It (the telay) grounds through it's base. So it needs to be mounted firmly to a clean surface of the truck body.

If manual transmission, you need the clutch safety switch to make sure the clutch is disengaged when starting. If automatic, you need the neutral.safety switch to make sure transmission is in neutral or park when starting. Those should be in series between the key switch and the starter relay (normally mounted on inner fender in the engine bay). The starter solenoid is usually built into the starter. Be aware that many people confuse the terms solenoid and relay. They are different items.

It is manual, m5r2, as long as the plug at the top of the clutch is plugged in and the clutch is pushed it should be fine correct?
