Something weird just happend...

After I bought my GE fridge a year ago, I learned that GE sold their appliance division to China around five years ago- so be careful choosing what you think is an American brand.....

Haier yeah, china company...

When Amana got bought by Whirlpool as far as I could tell at the time all the manufacturing went to canada, hence I call Amana a "canadian" brand... looks like they have some of the manufacturing back in the USA now though. but whirlpool owns 4 or 5 other brands too - and they make em wherever they can get the best profit not quality.... and move it around all the time.

My understanding is that something like 90-95% of refrigerator/freezer compressor units are made in China nowadays and it doesn’t matter what the location the fridge was made it, it still gets a China compressor

Myself, I appreciate the old tech, vacuum tubes, old radios. Restoring these is fun especially building old electronic chassis, mainly custom guitar amps. Reuse of old switches, transformers, wire, indicators, speakers & cabinets. Nothing ends up in the trash hardly. I use WWII stuff and appreciate the quality of these American made components. Some may ask..."are these disposable"? Like everything sold today....with a microprocessor tracking you & all you do.

India & china abide by NO pollution laws or guidelines, but us in the US are forced to. The EPA is the main reason for the demise of the U.S. in my humble opinion upholding ridiculous laws made by trade deals.

CO2 is a good gas to have plenty of. My background was in environmental... exhaust gas monitoring. CO2 has been played up as some sort of poison gas thanks to some public officials and want to be types. Still today in the L.A. basin the exhaust is cleaner than the air going into the intake. No lie.

China byproducts mixed into china plastic make for the worst compound that recycles itself in 3 years. Before you even use it or need it. I'm all over Milwaukee currently. Seems that I know more about whats wrong with their new line of tools than they even care about. Example; they own the keyless chuck patent, I inquired about their specification of centerpoint runout. It's +/- 0.015" That means that a 1/16" drillbit runs out of round 25%. The home depot tool guy & I opened up 5 different boxes trying to get lucky and I used my 1/16th" drill bit I brought along. I showed him exactly what the issue was, look (I said) at that. The bit is riding on a bell crank. How can anyone use that I asked.

Tires used to be made to a standard with man made rubber, neoprene namely and some higher end compounds which included silicone. No more except in aircraft & high reliability type tires. Now we have to deal with are black carbon & silica to make the tire wear and stick (both must happen at the same time to work). So tires come now with a 95,000 mile guarantee....painful miles of the worst performance imaginable, they fail to even come close to that number, and you'll pay to get rid of the old worn out carcasses. Tires only last 5 years these days. Goodyear cuts the bead on the shelf after 5 years.

Since the Detroit Lions and doing so well, I hope & pray that the city will again prosper ....will take it and run. What is good for Detroit, is good for this country! It would be a good place to start, start back in. Too many droids consuming much too much mass media. But this forum is a huge help, albeit keeping our trucks working and in operation proving that there is a resource, all of us. (edit) Thanks TRS, again!

All these ideas for new type technology have come from the U.S., Medical tech especially. How should we live without quality standards dumping with reckless abandon dumping appliances (for instance) at this rate? I understand that it's all going back to china on another long diesel burning boat ride. I see that at our local metal (appliance) recycle yard.

So, if by that you are referring to the forum policy of no politics… please permit me to say a couple things…

That rule of no politics has been on this forum for as long as I can remember and is in my opinion a large part of why this forum has remained a nice and polite community of enthusiasts for so long. The absolute hate from both sides of the political spectrum in the last 12+ years is astounding. People have proven that they can’t have a rational discussion on the subject without someone getting angry and things devolving into a hate feud. We don’t need that cluttering things up around here, we are all here for our love of these old trucks and to share knowledge and request help. Not to feud over politics. There are plenty of places to do that on the internet if that is what you want to do. We are just here to share a love for mechanical things.

But this forum is a huge help, albeit keeping our trucks working and in operation like a 1963 slant 6 Plymouth Valiant still running today, compared to a new tech type safe electric car which has already produced more pollution sitting on the new car lot and not even sold. Don't park it in your garage, your insurance company (or land lord) won't allow you to endanger the public. What are we supposed to do with all this junk? And more coming....

On the CO2 thing, you are correct, the atmosphere only has about .04%, if I remember correctly. Plants need CO2 to breathe and we are actively working to reduce that amount for some reason. If the plants die, we will eventually die since the entire food chain is dependent on them directly and indirectly.

As far as a green house gas, it isn't anywhere near the problem it has ɓeen made out to be be. There is another gas that is far more detrimental (I'm drawing a blank on it at the moment) and it is completely ignored.

It's just like this big push to minimize the amount of cattle we have even though there are plenty of studies and proof that cattle are way more beneficial to the landscape and environment than reducing them is.

I think a big part of the problem is to many people live in metropolitan areas and have no clue how nature and natural things work. All they know is what they are told and that food comes from restaurants and the super market. No thought goes into where that food actually comes from, how it's made, and the work that goes into producing it.

There is more to it than that but I don't want to write a book and I'm more than likely preaching to the choir.

Cows are really dumb creatures in the grand scheme of things and unfortunately the people pushing the cow fart theory have even fewer brain cells.

Grocery stores charging crazy high prices for beef, processing plants colluding to keep prices high while employing children and ranchers getting pocket change in exchange for their hard work is the real problem.

My ex brother-in-law is a dairy farmer. You ain't kidding that cows are dumb!

I'll admit, I haven't updated my research since the last purchase.... what brand was it that you came up with that is made in the USA again?
Its a maytag. Got it from lowes...granted that was 10 yrs ago

I haul milk off a dairy farm. Cows are one of the dumbest animals on earth i swear.

Im used to horses though...and even a dumb horse looks like einstein next to an average cow

We had bucket calves growing up, they can be pretty smart if worked with and if they are used to people.

Hogs are the same.

Most never see people in a positive environment though... so they may not act very smart around people.

And like some people some are just plain stupid.

Our sheep is a better dog than our dogs lol.

I'll get concerned about the CO2 from my 28 mpg Escape and 18 mpg Ranger after they ground all the private jets and drastically restrict air travel. Also, we used to vacation in Bar Harbor and we'd watch the cruise ships turn 180 degrees to leave harbor in the afternoon. There would be black oil/diesel exhaust pouring out of multiple 6-8' diameter stacks during the process.

If you think cruise ships are bad, look at "bunker fuel" used by the container industry... most of em are not allowed to run within so many miles of us soil on bunker fuel, so they are dual fuel setups they run "expensive" fuel close to shore where the pollution is regulated.

The entire USA fleet of all cars, trucks, semi's, farm tractors, "everything with wheels" is equivalent to like 17 or 18 container ships as far as emissions last time I looked and one single company (Maersk) has like 25 of those ships running non-stop... don't even know how many companies there are much less total ships on the water.
