What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Pulled apart some of the dash in order to get the instrument panel out with plans to change the cluster lights. Some time ago I changed the bulbs for LEDs and regretted it ever since. LEDs are too bright and turning them to dimmest setting caused radio to go dark. Ordered 194 bulbs as that's what I was told I needed. Won't fit sockets. So, what bulbs do I need? fordbulbs.jpgfordbulbs2.jpg

I went through the same exercise on my 97. I used the LEDs, and hated the way they looked, and then I replaced them back with the old fashioned incandescent bulbs.

When I got the truck, it had 305,000 miles on it, and I think they must’ve been the original bulbs, because there was only one in the cluster that lit up, the rest of the cluster was dark, the heating and air control was dark, etc. when I got them all to light up, it was like driving a new truck!

My bulbs were T8 for the warning lights, and T10 for the back lighting. I think the 2011 is the same, but just Google it. They’re the glass bubble bulb without a brass base, with the two folded up wires for contacts on the flat end.

I bought a couple of boxes of 10 each on eBay, now considered old obsolete stock, and I think I paid less than $20 for all four boxes. A lot cheaper than the stores, but you have to wait a week to get them.

Hope it helps

Most bulbs can be bought in 10 packs at O'Reilly's for just a few cents more than the Sylvania 2 packs. Brand name is Eiko.

Well, maybe not anymore. All I see now are 2-packs...

You can try ebay or whatever...but last i heard they are getting hard jf not impossible to find
Yeah, some lady behind the desk at my local junkyard told me “you better find all the Ranger parts you can get yours hands on, it’s getting harder to get parts for these ancient beauties” aint that the god damn truth. I might have to get creative and make my own version of those “shiftster” thing that people can’t find anymore

Been hearing an exhaust leak on the '97 lately under the cab that's getting louder, crawled under at lunch and don't see anything obvious but pulled on the cat and it flexes at the back end where it shouldn't so that's fun... I mean the 100% stock exhaust system is all still there at 213k miles so I don't blame it for anything, I've had to put hose clamps around the heat shields since that rattle was super annoying a couple years ago, instead of putting money in it I'll probably just pull it and weld up the cracks :) We'll see if I can get that done this weekend...
Man, my ‘90 has a bad exhaust leak coming from my exhaust manifold, I can’t even hear the sweet sound of my cherry bomb muffler because all the exhaust sound is all coming from the bottom of my firewall

I got a 77 LTD II. Try finding anything but mechanical components for that.

I needa marker lens assembly...2 on ebay one for 750 one for 850.

You need Toshiba V-2 bulb/socket assemblies, which twist out of the instrument cluster to remove and twist in to make contact when installing. I had the same issue on my 2011 and wrote about it here. Some of these Toshiba assemblies allow the bulb to be replaced separately, but the ones in the truck and the replacements did not. You'll bust the bulb trying to get it out of the twist-in assembly.

Several other vehicles around the same vintage take the Toshiba V-2 bulb/socket assembly. I got 10 off eBay pretty cheaply and replaced all in the cluster at the same time, including the turn signal and high-beam indicators.

Ford changed from 194 bulbs to V-2 assemblies sometime around 2006 or 2007.

I drove it to the junk yard to pick up the new transmission that they ordered for me. 4.0 2wd manuals are not common, so this ended up being the only way I could find a used one.

Ones I get the mustang moving under its own power I’ll work on that, shouldn’t be long.

Made an oopsie today. I accidentally bid on a 2007 E150 cargo van. Kind of hoping someone else swoops in and out bids me by tomorrow morning when the auction closes. As far as the Strangler, I took her down to the indoor range and got in some practice with my new person protection device. 70 rounds later and my aim looks like this.

Pretty cool that your LGS has a carnival shooting gallery setup. Too bad you didn't get all of the X, I wonder what prise they offer for that. I don't think that those automatic gallery guns count as a PPD though, that air fired lead shot wouldn't be very effective any way.

Joking because 70 rounds in that target does look like what someone would get from a gallery gun at the fair. Or atleast very similar to the last time I tried one. On the serious side, good shooting. If I'd tried that this afternoon, I'd have been lucky to hit the paper with 10 out of the 70 shots. Dam eye injections mess me up every time. Since I've got the room and I've got a whisper pickle, I should really set up a range for 22s in my back yard. Let me keep in practice for as long as I could afford it. I could really do larger caliber hand guns as well, but I don't have whisper pickles for them and don't like making the noise when the neighbors are home.

Situations like that are one reason I like the more "adult" airguns... I have a couple that will take out racoon or so without issue and you only hear the impact... a .22 or .25 pellet at 800-900fps is fairly respectable when you have 8-12 shots as fast as you can cycle the bolt and more air in reserve... great for around the house pest removal... :). I do need to get more trigger time in, it's on the list of things to do...

I did some looking and on the '97 a bolt in cat is only like $255, might look into fixing it this weekend but that's less bad than I expected...

Haven't done anything with the '90 in like a week, gotta take care of the yard a bit first...

Yeah I'll stick with my 22 rimfires and whisper pickles. I've got several options. 10/22 style rifle, AR style rifle, AR style pistol, 22/45 all threaded barrels. 22/45 carries 10 rounds and reloads as fast as I can change magazine, also shares control style with my 1911s. 10/22 has 10-20 round magazines and can also reload as fast as I can pull the trigger. Both are quiet with standard velocity, with subs you can only hear the bolt cycle and the bullet hit the target. The AR style 22s have anywhere from 20 to 50 round magazines, same deal on reloading, and I share control style with the regular ARs. Oh I can also use that 50 round magazine with the 10/22 if I get an adapter.

Yes, air is cheaper in a way given rules concerning them. I didn't care about that and prefer bang sticks. I've done several whisper pickles at this point, a few short bang sticks. Technically the 22 AR pistol is a two stamper since it was braced during the rule change, but I don't curently have the brace installed. Did not care about the brace and would have removed them, but since they were giving me a free tax stamp I was going to take advantage of it. I already had NFA items, so I didn't care about having my name for a few more.
