I’m looking for recommendations on a reputable manufacturer or either remanufactured transmissions or rebuild kits.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

I guess I need the M5OD but would a M5R1 bolt right up? From a 4.0l 4x4 of course.

1994 4.0L
5spd
4x4
Thanks!

Hey Tj :)
Man, if you have the capacity to complete a rebuild I would definitely go with the kit.
I'm not certain about the D or the R1, I think it would mess with your wiring harness connections or something but someone else will have to tell you just what that is about
Good luck with it man

Are you with the bunch of rebuilders from minnesota? The same one who sent me a bunged up $1200.00 transmission in an empty box ?? The one I am to this day trying to get sorted out (at least 3 years now and counting) ?
Absolutely not. been retired longer than that but i can guess who it was....Someone charged you $1200 for an M5R1? ouch! did it come with a short block and lifetime carwashes?

It was rather strange you coming in and posting PM sent, within minutes of someone posting a quiry as to rebuild or buy

PowerTrain sold me my first rebuilt M5R2 and the tail shaft splines failed on it. They get theirs from Zubrota in MN and the warranty covered the replacement. The replacement is leaking at the rear seal around the tail shaft. That means I have to pull the transfer case and pull the rear housing to fix it. And yes, they cost $1200.

At least mine was only sent in an empty box. I'm not sure about the first 1500 miles but am about the last 4 days, it spent those bouncing around in the back of a UPS truck rambling around in the Oklahoma hills, which are some very rough roads.
I put the old transmission back in it for quite a long time, then got a cousin to put a new main shaft in it
I believe IF they ever do make a good one they send it only to someone who gives them their core, and that is a mighty big IF

@gearfather is legit... I know he has helped several people here with parts and has a wealth of information he willingly shares.

I was actually thinking about contacting him for some shifter parts for my Bronco II.

M5OD and the M5R1 are the same transmission?
Yes. Full notation = M5OD-R1
If I'm not mistaken, there is also;
M5OD-R1HD
M5OD-R2 (302/5.0l bolt pattern?)
