Farm and Garden

You have me beat. I'm still in the shovel, hoe, pitching fork, and garden rake phase.
I was in that phase for a long time, then we started playing with lawn tractors and now I’m trying to get a real tractor going if it will just cooperate a little. Not sure I really need the big toy, but hey, it was cheap and cool, lol.

My property layout won't allow anything bigger than maybe a self propelled tiller anyway. If things go the way I plan, the gardens, as they get built will be amended enough that I can go no till.

Well, I took some gas down and splashed a bit in the Ferguson and after a couple tries it fired up and ran, but it ran at full pelt with zero throttle control right up until it tossed my battery off the tray. Have to repair the negative battery cable and I’ll have to secure the battery now, but I’m also going to have to figure out why the throttle is all hooked up but doesn’t control engine speed at all.

Did a little more on my new chicken building, somehow I shorted myself 1 sheet of 4x8 3/4 treated plywood so cant quite finish the deck today. Its about to rain anyhow.

How may chickens are you planning to have? That looks like a pretty big coup.

I have 10 right now, 5 are a year old, the other 5 I just got the beginning of march. the building is going to be 7x15 overall, but im going to partition off a 5’ section on the end closest to the house for feed/supplies. Will have a big sliding barn door on yard side for easy cleanout and the far side (where the trailer is right now) will have dog kennel panels for safe daylight yard time. Too many hawks in the area to let them free range, I do sometimes let them out a hour before sunset to roam.
The dog approved of todays work:

I lost two of the new chickens to hawks over the past month.
I also got rid of the rooster this morning. the neighbor made a comment about him being obnoxious the other day, and he was also starting to piss the wife off.

Coq Au Vin?

I have a few eagles in the area too, while its cool- they are also a predatory threat.
I probably do have a bigger chicken house than needed, but someday I might not have chickens and this could be a good shed for stuff. Most chicken coops aren’t useful for much other than chickens. Its made to be moveable but dont plan on it. A permanent type shed affects taxes, so moveable it will possibly be. Technically could load & move on a car hauler trailer if I ever moved again. Sure dont plan on it though.

They say a mating pair of rabbits will produce 50 lbs of meat a year...

Maybe add a rabbit hutch to the oversized chicken coop?

An provide great fertilizer for the garden.

Cleaned him up and gave him to my father for his birthday. Was a batnam, so not a whole lot of meat, but good for one person.
