4.0 making a strange noise

when my truck is idling its making a strange sound almost like relay clicking but when you turn off the truck it gets louder and you can feel a thud like someone is punching the side of the truck and when it clicks the lower radiator hose pulses.

any chance you can make a small video of this? is your rad full of coolant? air lock in the cooling system? what happens if you run the truck without the cap on rad? have you had any other previous problems that led up to this? besides this, the thud, punch sound you will need to narrow down. can a friend turn off the truck and you stand there to pin point the cause?

Park it uphill running with the radiator cap off until all the air bubbles work their way out.

That....is not good for a 4.0. sounds like classic air lock.... Eddie named a good way to cycle er out

we figured it out turned out its my alternator clinoid arcing out but when it arcs it makes a a loud relay click sound and it made enough of a thud to cause the rad hose to shake

Those are things that make you want to shoot your truck in the face for being a dick....

You just never know what's next.
