What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

New bumper and I know it’s not lined up well but I’m gonna weld it to the frame in a couple days so I can put a winch on it

I bought a bumper from a local junkyard today. Just under $100 including sales tax. My current one is so banged up that I can't open the tailgate without it falling off the hinge. I'm going to clean the rust off the inside and paint it with Rustoleum first, then I'll see how much trouble it will be to install it.

Replaced cable guides in both suicide doors, now I can open them. Only did the ones at the door handle so far, the others not broken (yet) but I have the parts. Looks like lower latch might be hard to get the screws loose. New guides fit perfectly, they are the aluminum ones. Will do uppers, they should be easy. Put panels back with only a few buttons to make them easy to get off, and, have to get more buttons. Took out seat belt latches for rear seats since I have taken out the seats. Need good T27 for upper and lower latches, I have one, it's trash, who is making these Torx tools with soft metal that's crazy.

Also shined up the chrome bumpers with chrome polish. Seems like they were in an era of being mixed up about exactly what to use for shiny; there's chrome, then there's plastic (grill) that looks chromy, and then there are the shiny surrounds for the cab windows. I believe those last are stainless steel. Chrome polish or Noxon has some good effect on them, but I found what really shined them up is 3M Hand Glaze.

Took new cruise control buttons off the wiring that came with them as I plan to use existing wiring. Had to do that destructively to the wiring itself (pins are fine) so am concerned how difficult it will be to get the wiring off the old ones.

Yeah, I took a couple broken Torx bits in for exchange awhile back and the guy at the counter was like, you know you can’t use these on an impact. I was like, I know, but I broke these with a ratchet…

Found another video showing how to replace the cruise buttons without taking off their wiring, but since mine are already off the wiring, that's not helpful now. Replacing all the unit (not just the buttons) is quite a bit more work because you have to take off the steering wheel. Will assume for now my wiring is ok and the buttons will fix it but of course I have no way of knowing that yet, all I know for sure is the old buttons at least are trash.

Didn't actually pay anything for them. I had a heck of a time getting the wiring off them, wrote the seller and asked doesn't the wiring come off and instead of an answer they just refunded it.

What happens at least to my Torx is the riblets on them bend and deform. It seems like the tool should be at least as hard as the screws and it seems like they are not. The heads of those things should be super hard and strong.

Started on the clutch. Got everything apart and mounted the L bracket for the modern driveline external slave. Not a very convenient way to make it right. So I have one egg shaped hole..... guess I put something in the hole next to the bolt...

Get started again early am I guess.

Easy to install. Easier if you have an engine hoist to hold it while you put the bolts in the holes. I've also done it by sitting the bumper on Jack stands.

Apparently I need this dowl kit for this flywheel so much for so much for oem replacement.

So here I sit and wait since I wanted to get this done.
