What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Not to question you but are you sure? I think it’s my fault to a degree. Look at the shifter arm that goes to the transfer case. It say A4LD on the one I gave him. I’ve got 3 in the barn. One automatic and 2 manual. I went out and looked and by god they are different. The manual arm is 90 degree doglegged. The automatic is slightly offset. View attachment 67654View attachment 67655

A4LD is the same as the m5. First gens used a bunch of different manuals, some some used the short 4spd/c5 one.

1354's are doglegged, I have never seen a 1350 with a doglegged arm. Check out at my previous linked thread, it is where I did my research.

I’m going to pull one off an 85 ranger tomorrow, if it’s not raining. It’s a manual/manual rig. We can take some measurements and make some comparisons. If we determine it will work. I’ll send it to you on my dime. I feel bad.
I appreciate that I mean things happen but id hate to put u out like that you already went beyond by not charging, I think this might be an issue of my 83 transfercases being different compared to the later years, I agree the shifter arm is also different and that's adding to the problem

So this first pic is of the shifter that came off the truck with this 1350, than the second is the one from tw205. The second one does bolt to the tail housing correctly, and my original does not.

Like I said. When I pull the one off I’ll take some comprehensive photos with tape measure in view. We can work on it from there. I appreciate your understanding. I’d like to see you get your rig together. Too bad you live so far away. If the rain keeps me in ( ranger is not at my house) I’ll do the measurements on my rigs. See if there is a length change between them.

I wonder if I can't find a shifter to fut this set up, if I could build an extension arm for the transfercase side. Which would alow me to clock it correctly, get the right length, and I could use a longer pin? Than once right weld it in place.

What was the original transmission?

It's the manual 5 speed out of an 83 4x4 ranger, the one that takes gear oil. The shifter on my truck currently A 2.3 4SPD 4X4 MANUAL has the same shifter

Then the manual isn't a m5od, they came out around 1990
That I could understand. I do have a 89 BII with the M50D from a 94 explorer on a 1350 tcase. It’s outside in the rain now or I’d go get a look at it too. The explorer was an electric shift so I know the transfer case shifter is the 89s with an FM146 originally.

If i could also get clock angles for the input arm for each gear location that would help me build an adaptor if I need to for instance this is pics in order top to bottom 2hi 4 hi neutral 4low

So where did you get the M50D. Isn’t that what you are claiming the nice red painted on is? I have one but it’s in the rain now. I’m curious if yours is a M50D

It came out of a 93 explorer sport I took it out myself infact I bought it for the trans lol.
