Made a hot dog and heated some frozen chili for lunch. Did not have any hot dog buns and was forced to use a sausage roll. In times like these we are forced into tough decisions that try men's souls and must do what we have to in order to survive even if the bread-to-meat ratio is out of whack.

Later we went to Walmart just to get some normal things and sure enough the hot dog buns were wiped out along with most of the bread, most of the Campbell's Soup, Hormel meals, all the toilet paper, and dairy. People are fawking idiots.

I accused my wife of hoarding for buying three bags of potato chips instead of our usual two bags.

Just loaded our freezer last month with the half pig we buy every year. I'm good. All the pork, ham, sausage, and bacon we need for a year works out to $3.99/lb. Okay, so the bacon doesn't last nearly that long.

Ok I know I live in a really weird state but really? As if the kids did already have 2 weeks off now they get an extra. No more going out to dinner because everything that has 25 or more people is shut down other than super markets.

See what happens when you import people with the virus? I saw this stuff happening weeks ago and said then it was bad to ship infected or potentially infected to an un affected area.

They have now went as far in Illinois to shut down all bars and dine in restaurant until the end of the month. Drive thru... carry out... and curb service only.

I suppose my delivery and carry out will see and big increase in volume. If it goes anything like I think it might... I will be put of food to make by mid week.

Ohio closed all their bars and have prohibited dining in restaurants until further notice.

The biggest concern is eliminating large gatherings for St. Patricks Day.

Unfortunately, it is. And it's going to get worse.
Had the people in charge started to prepare for this back in Dec and Jan, when it first started, we would not be in the position we're in now. The signs were there, but the administration ignored them.
With the capabilities of this country, had we started back then, we could have had a huge stockpile of the necessary equipment and medical supplies ready and on hand. Instead we're scrambling to play catch up.
As far as panic buying, it's just human nature. Over a period of time people tend to get complacent. Every hurricane approaching South Fla, people would buy like crazy, wiping out stores. When the storm didn't hit, many poo-pooed and when the next one approached, many didn,t prepare. When one did hit, many were left with nothing to keep them going.
Not saying to panic buy, for crying out loud, prepare BEFORE an event hits. We started stocking up back in Jan, and our kids/grandkids also did. I doubt many of you went through the shortages during the 1963 missile crisis
or the shortages during several outbreaks of the 70's and 80's. There was wide spread buying, and it sometimes took weeks for stores to restock, because back then the supply chain was much less developed than it is now.
I just hope that you and your families come through this without becoming ill. This is NOT going to end in a few weeks, it's probably going to be a long term event, and even when it winds down, there will be a ripple effect that will be with us for.....well, who knows.
Wife and I, due to our ages, will be curtailing our outside travels and associations, keeping it to just a few close friends. We can't even visit our grandkids as they might pass something along to us. Kids always have the sniffles, but might be immune to this, but could easily pass it along.
Whether you may think that this is some made up event, or you are one who takes it seriously, I hope you all come out of this OK

I can't put too much blame on our government, as always they did a poor job. Efficient government is an oxymoron. The Chinese government stifled the news about the virus and actually "sanctioned" the doctor who first went public about it-he's since died from the virus. If they had been honest with the rest of the world we'd have had 2 months more notice. Once they finally admitted they had a serious problem the Chinese quarantined millions of their citizens- which they were able to do because of their totalitarian government. Our CDC was recommending no large gatherings and "social distancing", in response many cities had big St Patrick's day celebrations with huge crowds. In a free country you are allowed to be as stupid, irresponsible, and inconsiderate as you want. I'm not in favor of China's government, I'm jut saying you can't fix stupid.

And the US healthcare world has had a rough year with flu already as far as gearing up for a "potential" problem. They already almost had their hands full as it was.

When my grandpa was in the hospital before Christmas they already had entire floors blocked off for influenza patients only. They had people stationed at the elevator with masks and everything thing making sure you wanted to be on that floor before you got off the elevator

I do agree that China should have been much more forthcoming when the virus first broke out.
Yet, even then, back in Nov/Dec there were people in the medical field, here, that were warning of it's eventual impact here. With the availability of easy travel between countries, it wasn't if, but when it would hit here.
Not like months' 25-30 years ago, but weeks or days now. Even after the early warnings, by experts in the medical field, our leaders just stuck their heads in the sand and made believe it would all go away.
This is one time I put the blame firmly on the govt and the current administration.
I have never liked Trump or his picks for an administration, and this time he has put millions of us at risk. And do not think, for one minute, that he and his family are not tested daily for the virus, and that the results are not back within hours.
Granted, the vast majority of cases will be mild, and nothing that regular over the counter mild pain meds can't take care of.
But I'm one of the "elderly" that is more at risk, along with my wife, than that "majority". Granted, we are in good health with no "under-lying" medical problems. But having to avoid visiting our kids and grand kids is kind of a bummer, and avoiding friends and social meetings, even something as simple as a cruise-in, is not a pleasant way to plan your future.
So, I'm not scared or in panic mode, but we do have to be cautious.

the college students are mad as hell about this,,,
first they get kicked out of college,,now they can't even party and get drunk!!!!!


OSU has stated all students must be off campus by the 22nd.


the restaurants can do take out orders. look for mass chaos in the drive thru lanes.
even worse, where the hell am I supposed to pee while traveling?

Excuse me if I don't think them not being able to party and get drunk is way down on my "who gives a sh-t" list. I'm worrying more about our health and the health of my kids and grand kids, along with all of my "elderly" friends.
I'll bet if their parents or grandparents came down with it, they wouldn't be so "mad as hell".

My daughter in law, with 3 kids, along with her next door neighbor with 2 kids are both stay at home moms. They have taken in about a dozen other out of school kids from the neighbor hood so the parents can work.
So, no I won't "lighten up"
Maybe instead of standing on a corner with a "toilet paper wanted", you could help out in some way. Same goes for the "out of college and want to party/get drunk" college kids.
Wife and I would gladly do what we could to help out nurses/doctors/police/fire, but due to age we aren't allowed. We have told neighbors that we could shop for them or watch pets while they have to work, but we are limited in what we can do to help.
Wife is an RN, now in an admin job in the hospital, but because of her age (70) she is not allowed on the floor, but instead is working in a non-patient area to free up other younger nurses.
Sorry, I just can't accept such a cavalier attitude.

I am sorry but this is the FLU, and like any human virus or bacterial infections it spreads thru the population, and this happened way before air travel, way way before

People are social, wash your hands, don't touch your face until you do, problem solved, yes it really is that simple

I get why countries are now limiting travel, and cities are limiting social gatherings, thats NOT to stop the spread, because it will still spread it just delays it, which is the point, it allows those infected now to seek any medical assistance needed so those infected in a few weeks can seek medical attention, and then those infected in another few weeks can get medical attention, ect..............
"They" are trying to eliminate a SPIKE in cases that would over tax medical facilities, as seen in China and more recently in Italy
And maybe give researchers enough time to come up with a vaccine, but still 10-12 months away

So I don't see what else any government can do to help
Governments are also responsible for economic well being of citizens, and limiting travel and social gatherings has a severe economic impact on people, so it can't be done lightly, or for very long
Last stats were 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.....................thats 4 out of 5 workers

No one has found a way to change human nature, and you can only somewhat modify human behavior, by limiting gatherings, but gather they will and spread this FLU over the next year
This has been happening since the first humans sat around a fire together, 200,000 years ago

I've got my neices staying with me during the day for the next 2 weeks while schools are closed. The schools sent home work but it effin insane, its not just some home work its literally 4-6 hours of work per day. I understand they are trying to keep them educated and what not but do they not understand that parents can't work full time and be full time teachers too. So when this is over my neices grades will slip cause im not a teacher and me and their parents simply don't have time to sit down and make them do 6 hours of crap each day.
