Auto Stop Eliminator for the 2019 Ranger

I still can't wait for auto drive then I don't have to deal with ANY of this stuff

Driving around town in traffic just doesn't appeal to me, driving out on a country road or off-road is another thing

This is on my moms edge SEL. but even the ranger xlt still has the button for the auto stop and electric parking brake doesn't it?

I have a "standard" park brake--Pull the lever between the seats--Don't know what the options are--Yes, Auto Start cancellation buttons, next to traction/bumper sensors, and trailer tow, are present

Ahhh, I thought all the rangers got the dumb electric parking brake too. I know they dont have the stupid dial shifter like the edge. Man that thing is dumb.

Nope, regular old hand brake. The rear calipers have that weird lever cable system attached to the back of them. Which means you need the caliper kit that cranks the piston back in place when you change pads for new ones.

Thats been common for all rear disc brakes. Ive owned a kit like this for 20 years to do rear disc brakes. You gotta apply pressure while turning in at the same time. I picked my kit up for 50 bucks or so. But you can get cheap "universal" tool for 10 bucks that goes on a ratchet and just press hard on the piston while you turn it. Worth it for a proper kit in my opinion though.

The electric parking brakes need a special scan tool to service. You have to go into the computer to retract the piston to put them in "service mode". They are getting cheaper I think you can get one for like 100 bucks now. But still... needing a computer to change brake pads is dumb.

That's the one. I haven't worked on them yet, so I don't know if the system is better than what my 2011 has. At least the parking brake is self adjusting. I have to manually adjust the parking brakes on the 2011 since there is no provision for self adjustment (probably not enough room in the tiny drum brake).

Same deal on the 2019. Your 2011 is self adjusting too though. Thats the point of the screw in piston. It IS the adjuster, when you use the parking brake it turns the piston screw outward to self adjust. If its not ajusting, the screw is seized. You dont set or adjust anything. Put it on, pump the brakes and the screw comes out to where its needed. Way easier and more reliable than a drum self adjuster.

Edit... just saw you said its a drum parking brake. Yes those suck. Sorry i never worked on a 2010/11 ranger. I didnt think they used a drum parking brake inside the disc.

If it is, then it's broke on both sides. I've had to manually adjust them at least every other year since I bought the truck. None of the normal self adjusting parts are in there. Don't forget, the main brake is disc. There is a separate brake for parking that is drum style in the center of the disc.

EDIT: This is the best picture I can find. There just isn't a whole lot other there for the 2010-2011 rear brakes. This is from a Silverado.

Yea edited my post. Never worked on the 10/11 didnt know it was the stupid drum in disc system. Yes they suck....

My buddy owned a jeep with the drum/disc rears. To work on the parking brake you had to pull the axles out. He just lived with no parking brake... the screw in piston style is not new technology and works way better. No idea why anyone ever decided to use the disc drum combo nonsense. Now im rethinking trying to find a 2010/11 rear axle for my 09 drum truck.

I hate them. I'm contemplating getting rid of the axle for an FX4 one. I won't benefit from the bearings since the 2010-2011 axle supposedly has the bigger bearings but I will get the 31 spline axles and drum brakes. I'm not sure if I would have to change the master cylinder or not since some drum/disc brake systems aren't compatible with each other. Maybe, there is a proportioning valve that just needs changed.

Crap, pre-2010 axles have that sensor in the pumpkin, don't they? Maybe just a rear brake disc to drum brake conversion then....

I dunno if id go disc to drum, drums arent bad but ehhh way more maintenance.

Im talking out of my ass here and derailing this thread but i believe mustangs didnt use the drum in disc, might be able to swap to mustang calipers and rotors with screw pistons to eliminate the drum parking brake. Obviously easier than doing a whole axle swap and going back in tech to drum brakes. Worth at least doing some homework on...

I've never had to replace parts like I have with the discs on the 2011 on drums. Even with the truck or CR-V parked for months at a time during deployments. I still did preventative maintenance. Cleaned the brake dust off, made sure the contact points were lubed, and gave everything a good look over. Rear drums would last me about 15 years before shoes and springs would need to be replaced. Yep, it was a PITA to change them but at once every 15 years, well worth it.

I'll probably just leave things how they are and just continue to complain about how horrible they are. LOL

That looks exactly like the kit I just got after christmas. Ive not had a chance to use it yet but Im sure that day is coming. It seems odd that the escape has rear drums (its a ‘11) the ‘03 I briefly had did have rear disc.

Amazing, how many threads there are, with gizmos to cancel/prevent the Auto Start/Stop system, when all one has to do, is push the "OFF BUTTON"
The button on my 2017 F150 got pushed so many times that it was about to fall out of the dash. Now I don't give it a second thought.
