4.0L SOHC Anything Useful from the 4.0 LR3?

As we all know, the Land Rover LR3 used the Cologne 4.0 OHC engine for a short period of time - 2005 - 07. I've never come across one in the junkyard but I imagine one day I will. Just wondering if there's anything worth grabbing from that engine that might be considered an upgrade for a common Ranger/Explorer 4.0 OHC. I believe the stated HP/torque numbers are a bit higher for the LR version of the engine.

For those not "in the know," this is what the idle of a 4.0 SOHC sounds like.

Well. If this is the LR3 intake, it's certainly different than ranger and the two explorer ones. May explain output differences. Looks very similar to a 3.0 SHO and BOA/BOB intake

I gotta agree, they had the fricking engine out and left the timing system alone?

If I gotta make mounts for an engine swap I am not gonna be making mounts for a Ford 4.0...

I guess it's perhaps more common to want to put the Ford engine in a Land Rover, given the wide availability of Rangers and Explorers in the junkyard.

From all my before swap research, ALL the Cologne SOHC 4.0 engines are the same excepting motor mount bore holes (block), intake manifolds, oil pans/filter mounts, the inclusion or lack of an internal balance shaft, engine oil dipstick length and method of positioning the CPS (crankshaft position sensor). Therefore, aside from checking the obvious like fuel, ignition coils, spark plugs and such, I would try to determine if the commutator installed on the flexplate is in the correct position as it sounds like it is trying to start and then the ECU is shutting it down. However, one should really try to read any engine codes with a Land Rover compatible code reader, that at least will give you an idea of where to start looking.
