I tried to buy a Ranger today. And I failed.

Honestly though, if I can't locate one within a week or so, it's looking like I'll be buying a Nissan.
Did somebody say "Nissan"?
What???
Renault has been in control of Nissan longer than you know. They have almost no input on the vehicles built in America, engineered for americans. RENAULT owning Nissan should be of no concern where the Frontier is involved. Or any car sold in America built by Nissan

Never had a Datsun but I know some people who love them.
I had a 720 (datsun pickup) that ran like a sewing machine. Loved that little thing. Recenly aquired a D21 ( Nissan Hardbody ) and it runs so smooth, i forget its an 88 sometimes. Almost 35 years old and still on the road.

The Fords and GMs I had back in that era didn't fare so well. That's also what did in my 83 Ranger. The Great Salty Northeast.

Nothing likes salt from that time frame.

Here is a ranger posted in Mansfield, Ohio craigslist. Its the 4.0 with a manual trans and only 85k asking $3750.. Pretty clean for being an Ohio truck.

I loved my old 91 Nissan d21 I had. It was a little beast. 2.4l with a 5 speed and lockout hubs. Standard cab, nice and short wheel base. I put a 3" lift, 31's, and had the frame patched and coated. Loved that little truck... Ended up trading it for an 02 Yamaha raptor 660r... Fair deal considering the Nissan's bed was shot and the rear end was loud in reverse. If you have a Nissan check the frame and check the bed for rust. They are notorious for frame rust and bed rust. First pic is when I just bought it for $900. Second pic shows it after I got my hands on it. third pics is the frame after it got the gnarly whole in the frame. Last pic just shows it with my quad in the back. Fun little truck.

He doesn't show door tag or give VIN
Photos 4, 12, and 15
4 shows a tail hit and a twisted body line
12 shows it fully warmed up and idling, whoopie! :D
15 looks like salt damage on the wheel face, wonder what you'd see underneath, although the body does look fairly clean I'd guess he's showing only what he's got to show and leaving the surprises for it's new owner

I am pretty sure something is jacked up with the frame on that one. If it was something minor like cab mount bushings the bodylines wouldn't match. Something major ain't right.

Ive looked at rangers in the mansfield/ontario area before, the underneath is always a awful mess.

Fount lots of rust. And it's been repo'ed twice. Can someone pull what nfi (dealer) paid at auction for it? Trying to work them down on price.

Beware rust repair parts for those are not as common as the TTB trucks...

If it is rusty it had better be stupid cheap... and for over 100k that one isn't particularly cheap.

Just come on down to Florida, spend about 2 hours on FB or CL, and you will find you a Nice Rust Free Ranger, for a decent price.
But really, If you find one close to me, I'll go check it out for YOU.

I thought the same thing.... That much money for something with that many miles? PSHH eff that! Around here in central Ohio just about every truck over 10 years old has rust. Doesn't matter if you don't drive in the winter or not.... So rust is just another thing people around here deal with.... Like I said, I never said he should go buy it but theres options out there that aren't 10k.... 10k for any ranger just sounds wrong......
