I tried to buy a Ranger today. And I failed.

Ohh… now you want rust free with in the rust belt.

Good luck bro, there was just one up here in Kalamazoo with a stick on craigslist.
It lasted about 1 day. If I didn't just buy a new one, I would have looked at it.

Ford's customer assistance center number is 800-392-3673 but I can't imagine they'd be able to help with your credit score. From my experience as a service manager mostly what the CAC does is document a complaint against the dealer(even if it's a product problem) and fire it off to the dealer so someone (it used to be me) has to call the customer and try to make them happy to close the case. It's always a good idea to have the VIN run in OASIS by someone with dealer access like ADSM08 and maybe spring for a carfax. I'd buy a properly repaired wrecked vehicle but run from a flood voctim.

Its auto. It's a 5-speed, but all five of them are behind a torque converter.

Appreciate it. I'll keep looking for now. Honestly though, if I can't locate one within a week or so, it's looking like I'll be buying a Nissan.

This shouldn't be this difficult. It's a ****ing transmission, not the cure for AIDS.

The problem is that not many were sold, and the guys that did buy them aren't giving them up.

I think anything above kentucky is going to have rust issues. here in ohio, anything above u.s. 30 is really bad, you can find cheap trucks in mansfield, but boy are they rusty junk underneath.

Here in PA even the stuff below US 30 usually isn't great, but you should see the crap you find above I-80.

Did somebody say "Nissan"?

Never had a Datsun but I know some people who love them.

I'm a Scranton native. Rust eats everything alive up there. I think it'd eat a Corvette given enough time... ;)

Be very thorough if you decided to go with a Nissan. Renault has done a number on Nissan and they aren't what they used to be. Since the Frontier hasn't been messed with too much, it should be a safer buy but I would still be very selective and research the shit out of it.
