Yeah, I would. I am assuming that they are trying to get a whole loaded, going by the picture. My guess, is that whoever is putting the axles together probably ran out of gears or bearings, and it was probably gears, so they are getting them just fast enough to keep up with production, maybe. They might be to the point of putting 4.10s or 3.55s in trucks that were slated for 3.73 (just example numbers) so they aren't holding up production.

I just got off the phone with Ford customer service... they are offering me a rental vehicle for 30 days (up to $60 a day on a comperable vehicle, $30 a day on anything not comparable.) Not until the part is available, just 30 days... but we'll fight that out in the near future.

I'd be in touch with your state's consumer protection agency. Ford better step up to the plate here. This stuff happens but this is really not a good situation for anyone and has clearly been handled poorly (although that's typical of dealerships and insurance companies....)

Reminds me of a story I heard a while back - guy bought a brand new Suburban and took it on a road trip. Fuel pump went out and it was like a month before the dealer could get one from GM. They just simply didn't have any in stock, anywhere.

He said they "will have it detailed"... I just laughed at that. If I get it back, it will have a new seat and carpet.

That is unacceptable. If glass is missing then it shouldn't be left outside at all.

We've leased a few Fords before this and never had any issues. If it had to go in for service, we got a loaner for the day or 2. It was peace of mind, and I didn't have to work on my wife's or my daily drivers.
My insurance company is technically just following the contract to the letter. It states "I'm entitled to a rental for up to 40 days at $30 a day."
The issues are with the fly by night insurance company of the kid who hit me won't cover the rental, Ford can't get me the part, the body shop isn't storing the truck correctly, and my insurance company is dragging their feet because they don't want to pay out the money to junk a $63K truck with only $12K worth of damage.
Now the cost to repair it just went up.... I told them I'm refusing to take the truck back (if it does get fixed) unless they replace the moldy seats and carpet. I don't know if that falls on my insurance, the body shop (a preferred shop of my insurance company), or the body shops insurance company. That's not my problem YET. I'll cross that bridge when we get there.


One thing I can say is make sure you insurance contract says "you get a rental until all repairs are completed to your satisfaction." If it says anything about time limits on rentals, don't agree. If you can, get a time limit on how long a repair can take before they total the vehicle in the contract.
