I may have just bought my last Ford

I opened a twitter account just because of this. If anyone wants to follow the day to day ramblings of this saga... with pics.

I'm at the body shop to talk to the general manager about the mold issue and what I expect them to do. They tell me he's in a meeting with the owner. He'll call me back in a half an hour... Thats not necessary.... I can wait. Maybe I can speak to the owner too.

Unbelievable.

We've leased a few Fords before this and never had any issues. If it had to go in for service, we got a loaner for the day or 2. It was peace of mind, and I didn't have to work on my wife's or my daily drivers.
My insurance company is technically just following the contract to the letter. It states "I'm entitled to a rental for up to 40 days at $30 a day."
The issues are with the fly by night insurance company of the kid who hit me won't cover the rental, Ford can't get me the part, the body shop isn't storing the truck correctly, and my insurance company is dragging their feet because they don't want to pay out the money to junk a $63K truck with only $12K worth of damage.
Now the cost to repair it just went up.... I told them I'm refusing to take the truck back (if it does get fixed) unless they replace the moldy seats and carpet. I don't know if that falls on my insurance, the body shop (a preferred shop of my insurance company), or the body shops insurance company. That's not my problem YET. I'll cross that bridge when we get there.

One thing I can say is make sure you insurance contract says "you get a rental until all repairs are completed to your satisfaction." If it says anything about time limits on rentals, don't agree. If you can, get a time limit on how long a repair can take before they total the vehicle in the contract.

Yikes. A few thoughts on all that.

1) The mold repairs should fall on the body shop at this point. It would go on their shop policy ticket. They may or may not then be able to try and get their insurance to reimburse them, but I doubt that would happen as the damage is due to their storing the truck improperly.

2) Yes, if you have a rental rider in the insurance if shouldn't be limited. I skipped it on mine to save money, but I have 4 DDable vehicles and access to two others that aren't mine.

3) I'd be past the point of suing the kid's insurance for a number of things, including the cost total out the truck and your own legal fees to sue them at this point. Depending on my mood and lawyer I might try adding Ford to the lawsuit.

4) Yes, it is probably a good idea to have in writing "Repairs will be completed in X days, or the vehicle will be totaled.

Unbelievable.

I agree.

I took some pics of the truck, the "building" (tent garage), and the parts waiting to be installed before they try to clean it up. (155 of them to be exact.)

The truck is in a tent garage with both front windows open and the back window not installed, it's just covered in plastic crash wrap. Both front seats, both door panels, the carpet, and the center console lid have mold growing on them.

One of the new axle shafts is sticking out of the weathered box and is rusted to what I would call a heavy surface rust. (I deal with rust everyday on our fleet of a few hundred plow trucks at work, I know what is acceptable... this isn't.)

I never talked to the manager or owner, I just took my pics and told them my lawyer will be in touch.

I don't know if I can't link pics off twitter here, but I'm putting some of the pics up there.

Thanks, I couldn't figure it out on my phone.

Can see, wish I couldn’t though. :bad:

it worked now my eyes hurt from all the mold... can't breathe... in here.. run.. get.. help...

Stuff like this is why when someone else causes an accident by being careless you go beat the crap out of them before the cops get there and blame all their injuries on the accident.

There were witnesses.

Today's update:

Good morning Mr. Xxxxxxxx,

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today.

Unfortunately at this time I am not able to provide an exact date when the rear axle housing will be available for your truck.

Thank you,
