I stumbled across these (2) videos that I thought you would find interesting. It's not the 2019 Ford Ranger, but the 2019 is built on this platform, so the same basically applies.

It would have to be tough to work on a new truck with no rust or fighting with some stupid fastener for hours totally blowing your schedule...

The holesaw to a new truck fender was cringeworthy.

But, there will be no aftermarket support. Or very limited, at least.

Which wouldn't take a whole lot.

The big thing is how much got changed, T6 front bumper is probably out. Rear bumper "should" carry over, suspension will depend on what got changed for the US market. Sliders, bed racks, wheels, flares, snorkels (externally anyway) should carry over.

I'd think aftermarket companies will be slobbering all over themselves to make bits for the Ranger. I can't wait to actually see this truck in person. I've already hit a friend of mine up who works for a dealer to tell me when they get one in so I can go check it out.

What am I missing?

My '98 has:

Tires (33s), Lift/Skidplates (Superlift)*, gears(Yukon), Power (V8)**, interior (leather seats/console from Explorer), Adventurer camper.

Available:
Bumpers, Roll bar (aka light bar) <would conflict with camper; so happening on my truck>. If you want to go the other way, there are kits to bag and/or ifs, lowering spindles.

Things have just cooled off for a vehicle which has be off the market for 7+ years.

I do wonder if Ford users the RoW 6x5.5 pattern on rims or the F-150 6x135 one. 6x135 would be better for North America, so we can get some economy of scale.

p.s. Its spelt aluminium in English; just like colour has a "u".

*The lifts, down under, that I have seen employ a subframe ala Superlift, but use blocks on top of the factory knuckles (rather than new knuckles as found in Superlift kit). <I can't remember who did it that way historically for '98-'11s>.

**OK, new Ranger probably doesn't need 600hp, but I'll be awaiting the 1st 3.5 Ecoboost/10speed swap that runs in -30 to +40C, as well as my 331 Windsor/4R70W.

Wheels look the same as ROW so I doubt they changed the pattern.

only one company made a lift kit for the 98 Ranger. Earlier Rangers had more support. there have been things that people have adapted to the ranger such as the ARB snorkel that was never intended for it. There will be more aftermarket items available for this new ranger than the previous Rangers ever had. And it only makes sense because it's a much greater Market then just North America

TTB trucks still have more support in a lot of ways than the 98+ trucks... but you gotta look for it.

these have stuff out there...may take some adapting for bumpers or snorkels or what have ya. but the suspension remains to be seen. i suspect there will be potential issues there....

i dont think your missing much....my truck has served me well the last 25 years so...ya know....something fresher could be nice.

the 2.3 will run as well as a normal stock iron head 331 cruising the roads. this truck is coming to the showroom with more power then even the average "typical built for driving the roads 302" v8 swaps tend to have. but a 331 would probably tow much better.


i dont think many people have driven a 2.3 ecobooby. its a odd critter. it has a good torque curve....the gdi enables holding 290#,s or better from about 2600 well into the 4k range.

i assume the ex is a few pounds heavier then the ranger will be but who knows...ours is typical weight right about 5 k curb wt and rated to tow 5k. but it is equipped with the 3.5 na engine...neighbor has the 2.3 eco....but tow for those is like 2k. i had thought it was higher but confirmed its paperwork to 2 k... yeah....something odd there. but it is what it is.

now...compared to the current offerings in 1/2 tons, the ranger wont be impressive. but compared to previous rangers and 1980-2004 1/2 ton trucks ....stock for stock...... it will have some serious juice. i do suspect it wont tow too good though from what i am seeing with these sploders....

with software the 2.3 will embarrass a stock mustang ho or explorer 302 equipped with software only....i am confidant of that driving a current explorer with the 2.3 eco. it will run away from the previous 302 or 4.6 explorers.

with the exception of the aviator. i am not so sure...been a long time since i drove one of those critters...they were bad ass...drove a 03 model for a bit....it was nice. it was over 7 k for the towing on those if memory serves me...and they weighed about the same as the current model. owner had it in the 14 range a few times which is pretty good for a 5k box.


i can see buying one and pounding it into the ground like a nail. and building it from there.

I really, really want a new Ranger but if my '85 is rated to out tow it with a stupid little 110hp 2.8 it is going to make a new one a really hard sell.

thats in the explorer. the tuning and gearing of the ranger may offer more. that an its likely caution from the rs issues....


but there are platform trucks with all of the engines....i cant see the 2.3 staying the single engine. as good as it is....not enough for a work truck.

As far as rear suspension goes if yours is rated to tow 5k...

I know nothing has been released on the Ranger yet, just saying if that is it that is pathetic.
