"Rear Antilock" light on in my 1992

The Rear Antilock light is comes on and stays on in my 1992 Ranger after driving a short distance. I redid the brakes about 6 months ago and had no problems since then, however now the light is on.

I believe this is a simple rear brake system only. How can I trouble-shoot this type of problem if I don't have a computer reader to hook up to the Ranger?

fix it with a piece of black electrical tape...ie cover up the idiot light. My 90 F150 had the same problem, never had an issue in 10 yrs.

Make sure brake lights are working, blown fuse will turn on ABS light

On the master cylinder check the electrical connector, make sure it is clean, unplug it and check.

Check that Emergency brake switch is working, push down on pedal with key on and red brake light should come on.
release e-brake and red light should go off

I'm guessing your 92 still has the antilock speed sensor sitting on top of your diff , lining up with a tone ring on your crown gear. Undo the bolt, pull 'er out and have a look. If you have a bone yard with pre-92s in there, grab a donor/spare (I think but not positive F150s of that vintage have the same sensor).

It has been my experience that this critter tends to be the culprit on old Rangers/F150s when the RABS light comes on and stays on.

Properly functioning RABS is WORSE than no ABS at all. Particularly in the pre-95 era.

I have a 91 and 92. When my abs light was on in the 92 it was a leak in the brake line but was using a lot of fluid. in my 91 the rear drums needed cylinders. after the lines where replaced. I had my brakes replaced recently and the never set off light but I had one rear shoe busted in half. So I would check cylinders and lines from the box to the drum for leaking or breaking but if broke you would loose massive break fluid.
Like refilling every trip of 30 miles. WARNING you may not see brake fluid while pumping brakes with motor off so make sure you have it running. my lines where snapped and no fluid spilled unless running.
