So the other day i changed my rear dif fluid in my 1995 with the 7.5, i used 80w90 gear oil and now its making a whining noise. I didnt not have that noise before i changed it and i rechecked if i had enough fluid and oil came out the fill plug like it should. i dont understand why this is, could it be because i used the house brand gear oil? Any help would be great thanks!

i already checked the tag on it and its an open dif. any other ideas?

also noise is not constant

i guess it could be that but i dont get why it started making noise after i changed it

If it is a bad axle bearing fix it.Diff gears, go for a thicker oil. Turn up radio, Wabbout the tires? Big tires with tread get noisy too. :D

Check here for what axle you have: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/axle_codes.shtml

Limited slip needs Ford Motorcraft Friction Modifier
You can buy small bottle or gear oil with it already added

You are not hurting anything, but limited slip won't work and you can get the whinning

Actually the limited slip makes the clutches slip smoothly, lack of the additive makes them grip better, but prone to chattering on tight radius turns...
