Looking for a better center console

I have a 94 Mazda B4000 ext.cab with bucket seats. I cant stand my center console. If I have anything bigger that a pop can in it my stick hit it. If I have my coffee cup in, I cant shift into 2nd or reverse.

So what options are there for a good center console that will still leave room in the back for the kids but allows me to have bottles and coffee cups in the cup holders?

I did post this in the Mazda forum but I know the inside of the cabs are the same. So I thought some of you may know.

Explorer center console or custom console.

The Explorer full length center console, or short length console would work for you. Goto your local junkyard and look in the Explorers you will see either a long console that goes from between your seats to the dash or one that is about the length of the seat cushion.

the explorer console will be the same way i think cause the one in my 92 wont allow me to have coffee mugs in order to shift.

there are three different cup holder inserts for the stock center console, and any of the three will fit any of them... there's one option with only one cup holder, sounds like that's what you have, it gets in the way of the shifter, another option was one with two cup holders that are side by side, those don't work well with a manual tranny, the third is two cup holders one in front of the other, this works best with a manual transmission. The first two options are held to the console with screws, the last just clips in (pull up at the front edge to get it out at the junk yard)

I have never seen a full length console in a first generation Explorer which is the only style of Explorer with the same dash as a 1994 Ranger/B-series.

I have had the 1 cup holder consol, and now the 2 cup, both have the same problem with the shifter. You can try to relocate it back an inch or so as it is only held in place with screws and should not interfer with the rear legroom as there really isnt any. There are also I think short throw shifters that might take the consol interferrence out of it. Another problem is that both types have cup holders that are just too big to hold anything firmly so they tend to just float around when in place. My f350 has a dash holder under the radio for drinks and that would be a good option if one could fabricate something up higher on a ranger. But like anything else there is just so much room and too many needs.

Mine is the 2 cup side by side.

I would be interested in a short throw shifter, are they readily available?

I will check out some explorers. I cannot go full length as it is a manual.

they used the same center console for many years, up through at least 99 I think, so just go out looking for explorers...

The short throw shifter is a Hurst, I think it's still available but if I remember right it's over $200

Yeah i found the shifter at Summit. Its around $230
It would be a good upgrade I think.

Not sure if this is the same, because is a bench seat, but lack of cup holders is one of my pet peeves in a vehicle so I fabbed this up for my 84. Screwed into the center tranny hump, clear of the shifter with 32 oz drinks and holds my coffee cup with its handle. Set forward enough for seat adjustment etc. FWIW
