Looking for better MPG

ill check it out...

is the speedo a gear at the end of a cable and is it an easy swap?...any threads around that youve seen that address this?

Yes the gear is at the bottom end of the cable.. It is small, plastic and the color of it tells how many gears are on it.. using the color as a guide a different color can be used to raise or lower the speedometer reading.. Of course it ain't the color that does it...it is the different ratios of the selected color.

appreciate the reply and your time....ill look into that...on a ranger I set up for off road a while back I installed a speedo calibration box after I redid the suspension and gearing..it really helped keep the shift points spot on.......maybe theirs a thread around here on going with the gear instead..thx again

just an fyi...i checked the tire specs and for an 03 edge it is what I have already on there...235/75/15.....remember the edge is a 4x2...2 wheel drive on a 4 wheel drive frame....thanks again for all your help.

Sad to say, but with that auto-tranny you've got 3-4MPG wasted just heating the surrounding air, and otherwise trashing the planet, lol. Really sad the lack of technical progress on autos... the engineers got bonuses and high kudos from their employers for making the autos INCREDIBLY CHEAP TO FABRICATE, and nothing else.

(In an informed textbook on the matter, I remember that in 1989, it cost Ford $24 to make the entire AXOD tranny for the Taurus... blown-shell cast aluminum housing, stamped gears, chain drive... yeah baby... lowest dollars/ft-lb... name o' the game... amazing in a way... but not from the consumers' POV... )

Yes fixizin the actual cost of the vehicle is about 15% of the list price.. The rest of what they call cost is mostly the UNIONS their labor, health benefits, retirement etc. Then you must also add in the cost of their advertisement and LAWYERS! By the time you get thru there goes the rest of the list price..
