railmans build thread....

Do eet. I know where an 8 lug sterling rear is with 4.10s.

I'd love to but I'm gonna have to go with a D35 to match my 8.8 for the time being...I just want to get 'er going so I can get back to Turkey Bay and the setup John has would be perfect for what I need! :headbang:

good...i really want the 50

Great job. Your truck is set up like I plan to do mine as I get the funds.

good job, cool truck and best of all it's all 100% functional. then as a plus it gets beat on in the trails :D:headbang:
reading this thread has made me consider leafs out front as an option for SAS'ing my truck :icon_welder:. only im not sure of how leafs would perform at speed :icon_confused:, gonna need 6" to 8" of lift though... ah hell a good basterd pack with a add-a-leaf or long shackles should work should it not? :thefinger: :D

2 questions tho...
the front leafs look inboarded under the frame is this true?
if the leafs aren't inboarded did you mount the shocks to the axle or the top plate for the leafs?

thanx for the compliments:icon_thumby:

as for "at speed"....I wouldn't have a clue....have only driven it up to 35mph as I trailer it to and from the trails....it is really just a dedicated wheeler now....

as it sits now is in the 5" area of lift....the rear is the same as what I lifted it originally with the TTB set up, so I mounted the front to correspond with the rear height...

and the leaves are almost inboarded....I used the stock spring perches on the D60 so that dictated my spring mounting centers.....which put the spring just barely under the frame....with 90% of the spring outboard....

originally I mounted the shocks to a stud I put onto the spring plate, which I broke on the last trail ride....but have now changed it to some tabs I mounted to the axle....

Did you reuse the u-bolts we picked up from Rural King?

no, I had bought some longer ones....

Define speed, or where you're looking to go fast at (offroad, or on?). I"m running the same spring placement/setup that Railman is and I don't have any problems running down the road (adding a track bar helped though).

However, I wouldn't want to run my setup quickly down any whoops sections, so take that for what its worth.

speed

between 50 - 60 mph down a field before hitting a table top :thefinger: and 70mph down the hyway :icon_thumby: exo cage design has been thought of
my area of Ontario Canada is especailly flat so it makes us a different kind of crazy :D since the only challenging thing to do with our trucks is mudding :headbang:

trac bar is definitely on the list of ideas with the leafs.

thought it would answer your question on speed.

i live in ontario and we have all sorts of rocks and trails too lol...... and if your doing that sort of shit you really should do coils over leafs anyways. but you say you want 8" of lift (i think) so you can easily do rear mounted shackles so i wouldnt worry about it too much

How is that aluminum driveshaft holding up? Im thinking of slapping one on my 4X4 ranger but I heard they dont hold up to well.

My aluminum shaft lasted about 3weeks, and i wasn't wheeling when it snapped

Hey John, do you have any closer pics of the front leafspring brackets? And did you ever end up adding any leafs to your explorer leaf pack?

(I decided to put the tons in my ranger)
