gun choke question

my shotgun does have the screw in chokes. and i have been seeing the coyotes within 20 yards of the house.

Full choke will be fine then. Just don't use reduced-recoil shells.

You have some gutsy coyotes if they're getting that close to the house. Keep small dogs/animals inside until you clear out the problem.

when useing a shot gun with slugs make darn sure it is capable of shooting a slug. some shot guns are not designed to fire slugs it will swell the barrel. the metal is too thin. mostly goes for older shot guns.

I ran a check in your area (county) and I see no issues with wildlife problems. Are you talking about one or two coyotes?? Or, twenty of them. Deter them with sonic noise. It works.

there are several around here i have seen at least a dozen different ones.

12? Yeah, I'd get a rifle. You're not sneaking up on 12.

I like wills idea lmAo screw blowing a hole in the coyote let's just make he whole pack disapper lnI

An execution at 20 yards. Pretty damn bold of them.

iv seen it before. from what i have seen the more of them you got, the braver they will get. if you got that many of them around, another option for you is bribe a local hunter to take them out in exchange for you alowing them to hunt your land. trust me most hunters will jump at this opritunity. im in the poscess of acuiring hunting right to a posted property, by taking out coyote for the land owner. this will be the second time i have got permition to hunt posted land in exchange for dealing with them.

I believe everyone has mentioned any one way to knock out your coyote problem. Me personally, I wouldn't use a shotgun but go for my 30-06 or 6.8SPC. But that may not be the case for you. So for rifled slugs, use an Improved Cylinder for the choke. Or for buck shot shells, go with a full choke. A turkey choke may work with buck shot also and gives you a tigher pattern. Or if you shotgun is capable of it, use a 3.5" BB shell on full choke.

But if you really don't mind, just take the largest shot shell you have and start blasting.

It's possible to eat 15-bean soup and fart your way to the moon, too.

A bear is an apex predator so it's possible to get close enough to it to use a slug gun. A coyote is afraid and the world expert at avoiding humans. They thrive even in big cities--you just never see them. The times I've seen a chance to shoot one was early in the morning when they had a bad night hunting and were taking a chance. From my kitchen window to the start of the woods is 250 yards and that's the distance I would need. A shotgun--nope. They are small, and I could probably hit one through iron sites with an M16 at that range, I would prefer a scope and a bolt-action rifle of the same caliber. A varmint gun.

Buckshot is inhumane, so it should only be used on humans.
Are you being disagreeable for any particular reason or just because you like being difficult?

I have video of coyote hunting with a shotgun. Contrary to popular belief, they can be quite stupid most of the time from the looks of it. Best scene in the video was with the guy standing on an old logging road with a guy behind him calling coyote in, two come onto the trail right in front of him and BLAM. One goes down and the other runs off the trail. Guy goes "now just wait a minute because they always come back for one last look." Sure enough the other one steps back out for a look. BLAM.

It is possible.

The only coyote I've had a chance to shoot at was running at 100 yards and my rifle wasn't handy. Pretty sure they got my one cat and the game commission around here has said that they've been killing too much small game.

Ran a check? Nobody offers stats on coyotes around here. They are nuisance animals that can't be checked and they are everywhere over here.

Brian I'll come over and sit with ya. I like to hunt coydogs. I'll bring the calls. If one is killed the others will be back to eat it.

If there are no other animals around that anybody likes a pan of antifreeze will work too and won't wake the neighbors...

Wouldn't that be animal cruelity? Peferably me, I take out the game as quick and painless as possible.

They sound like a pest to me, not game.

I also chuck mouse poison in my sheds as opposed to camping out with a bb gun and trying to pick them all off painlessly.

When it comes to my pets or vehicles, if some critter is messing with them... just about anything goes.
