My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

I say we Fire every Politician, and start over, get rid of all those back stabbing, greedy, good for nothing, lowlife, beady eyed, yellow striped pole cats.

that's just my two cents worth.

Multi, is there any way you can get pictures of the front end parts that was rubbing???

Thank you

Robert

I will try today.. Sorry it has taken so long I have had a lot on my plate the past week or so.. I'll try to take some this afternoon when I get home.

Multi, I'm off this weekend and could come up and go yard hunting. That said after finding the Explorer V8 donor I''m not really sure what I'm looking for anymore.

Hey multi! Long time no see! Just got caught up on your winter excursions. Glad to see its running better, and you have finnaly found the gears you were complaining about for so long! lol.

I vote for the evil snail power too! Gotta get some boost in there buddy! Make it a dual ecm setup with an electronic waste gate so you can run in normal like you do now (limp mode, lol) then flip a swith to run the boost computer and let the waste gate build some boost!! Best of both worlds! Power to eat those camaro's and 25MPG+ to boot!

Hey bud! glad to see you back at it!! The truck is getting 14 MPG and I have no idea why.. Runs great no codes... Until I figure why I am done with her..

Guys I haven't been on in a while.. Honestly I have kinda lost interest in the truck for the time being.. As most of you know My girl helped with a lot of the truck and her and I split up so I have kinda crawled in a hole... I am crazy about her and the truck reminds me of the time we spent together... It's difficult for me soooo...

Do you have any way to check what the exhaust temp is? It might be reading hot, and flooding the exhaust to keep the cats cooled down.

Sorry to hear about the breakup. Its never fun, no matter who it is. Have some cold beers, and wrench on the ranger some more. Throw a turbo on it or something, so that you can re-take ownership of it, and you will be good to go.

Edit: EGT should read in the 900 degree range I belive.

Could it be the gears that you are using now??? having it running more RPM's, or did you lower the RPM's????

Sorry about your lost of a Good Girl Friend.

not going to disagree with your facts here, but it's virtually impossible to read true EGT, so if he's getting a reading of anywhere near 900 on anything, there's something majorly wrong...

best way to measure is an infrared pointed at the header tube (or manifold) and compared to another truck... i seem to remember the outsides of header tubes were between 190 and 260* when we were checking our race car (chevy 350 under the hood) but i don't recall clearly, as that was atleast 7 years ago i stopped racing, and it might have been celcius...

it's also normal for the outside cylinders to read lower than the inside, and the front to read lower than the back

Thanks Guys. I wish it was easy but... If it was flooding to keep the cat cool wouldn't it be running rich? Like I said there are no codes. Snapon Scanner reports 111 no codes present. The engine is turning lower RPMS now -200 from what it was... I unplugged the battery and let it sit for a few hours.. Seems to be getting better MPGs now (the gauge hasn't move much in quite a few miles)... Can't afford to fill her up right now so.... I can measure the Exhaust temp if I go over to my buddies shop... Let me know on the running rich.

When I was Driving Truck, I had a 89 Freightliner that started running bad, but when the guy came over from the shop, the comp said there was no codes, but when he tried to rev the engine up it would sputter like crazy, he thought it was the fuel pedal (the 3 wire type) and changed it out, still sputtered like crazy, AND still no codes, I asked him if the computer could be messed up and just didn't know it was messed up, he change the comp and the truck ran fine, in fact it ran better, and got 1.5 miles better fuel mileage, pulled a hill better, and so forth.

Could it be that there is something wrong with the trucks comp and it just doesn't know it, and do you have another comp to try on it?????

I hope you get it figured out.

Thanks Robert. I guess it could be the ECM. It's the only one I have so I don't have another to test... I thought the same thing too. It still runs really good just sucky MPGs

Here is a good read for you on EGT's. If used right and the readings taken from the right area, it can be a great way to tune an engine, nearly as good as an AFR gauge. Turbo guys use it alot to keep on eye on efficency and what not. The link states a 1350-1800 degree egt reading at wot and power peak. The readings your getting off the headers are probably correct, as the metal wont be the same temp as the exhaust gases unless exposed to wot for an extended time, and without much engine bay cooling. Remember the exhaust gases are moving out of the vehicle, not staying in the header. If his AFR is off, it will give an out of wack EGT reading as well, and will help point the right direction as to where to look. Ideally a cylinder by cylinder would be best, but not practical for him. A temp reading of the headers once warm, or mabye some heavy wot runs will give him a good idea if he has a few cold cylinders or something.
